    Position Description:
    Duties:
    • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
    • Promotes and maintains positive and effective working relationships and promotes good public relationships as a representative of Licking County Government.
    • Assists the Chief Dog Warden to ensure assignments are complete, provides training and evaluates employee performance; receives and resolves employee issues according to established guidelines; approves timesheets and leave requests. Interviews and hires candidates for employment. Actively involved in employee relations. Ensures employees within the Office of the Licking County Dog Warden comply with all laws.
    • Recommends and assists with corrective action/discipline to the Dog Warden as necessary.
    • Ensures reconciliation of license sales, adoptions, etc., against receipts and logs; prepares daily cash for deposit with Auditor’s/Treasurer’s Office on regular/daily basis; makes daily cash deposits in the absence of the Dog Warden. audits daily cash receipts (pay-ins) on a weekly/monthly basis.
    • Assists in developing, administering and monitoring internal policies and procedures.
    • Oversees proper housing and daily care of dogs in the shelter.
    • Determines impound times, euthanasia and disposal of dogs per the ORC; Euthanize dogs.
    • Assists the Chief Dog Warden with coordinating and overseeing the spay & neuter program, policy compliance of Volunteer/Community Service personnel program.
    • Assists Chief Dog Warden in maintaining accurate, detailed department records to include pet adoptions, licenses, vaccinations, equipment inventory, etc.; Prepares a variety of reports (e.g., statistics, progress, budget, etc.)
    • Monitors mileage and maintenance on all vehicles.
    • Issues citations and files criminal complaints for violations of the ORC; Prepares documents and statements of charges to present in a court of law, appears and testifies in a court of law.
    • Prepares and monitors all fiscal expenditures (accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, payroll, travel expense, purchasing, etc.); Coordinates grant applications to seek funding for canine protection and canine/animal education, sheltering and control.
    • Handles public relations to include media inquiries and education in the absence of the Chief Dog Warden.
    • Resolves public complaints or complaints from Government Officials as necessary.
    • Communicates with County Commissioners, Health Department, Local Police/Sheriff’s Office and Humane Society as necessary.
    • Serve as Rescue Coordinator.
    • Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable PERRP safety standards that pertain to the essential functions of the position and all agency safety procedures.
    • Remains informed of current developments and procedures pertinent to duties; may be required to attend seminars/training.
    Brief Description:
    Summary:

    Provides administrative support for the Office of the Licking County Dog Warden. In the absence of the Chief Dog Warden provides leadership and direction for the overall operation of the Office of the Licking County Dog Warden. Ensures compliance with all Ohio Revised Code (ORC), federal, state, and county laws. Identifies areas for improvement and recommends changes to the Chief Dog Warden.
    Job Prerequisites:
    Minimum Qualifications:

    Associates degree (A.A.) from two-year college or technical school; and three (3) to five (5) years related experience and/or training; a minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Additional Qualifications (Agency/Dept. Qualifications):

    Knowledge pertaining to Ohio Revised Code 955. Understand House Bill 14. Knowledge of interaction with volunteers or concerned citizens regarding various animal related issues. Leadership skills. Teamwork skills. Communication skills. Dog handling experience. Dependability. Loyalty. Honesty. Communication. Shows initiative, efficiency, reliability and dependability. Valid Ohio Driver’s license; *Oath of Office to serve as a Deputy Dog Warden; *Firearm training certification (*obtained within 12 months after hire or job placement); Must meet firearms qualification requirements once a year.
    Compensation:
    Salary: $59,280 annually
