POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATIONRecreation Specialist - Adult Enrichment and Arts is a professional-level position responsible for programming, organizing, supervising, developing, promoting, and implementing activities designed to enrich the lives of children and adults. This position oversees both Adult Enrichment and Arts programming areas.
The position is responsible for coordinating programs and services that meet Department and City goals. Responsibilities include safety, staff supervision, guest service, administration, and general oversight and management of programs, including ensuring alignment with budget goals. Work is performed with considerable independence in decision-making in accordance with established policies.
The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. The City of Westminster has a Multilingual Stipend Program to encourage, and reward benefited employees who are conversationally fluent in languages other than English. Benefited employees have the opportunity to test their language proficiency skills and qualify for a bi-weekly stipend that will vary based on the employee’s level of proficiency and usage.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS/PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses and Certifications Required :- A minimum of one (1) year of experience programming, organizing, supervising, developing, promoting, and implementing recreation programs in either a public sector/special district or in the private industry

- A valid driver's license and safe driving record throughout employment
- CPR and standard First Aid and AED Certificate within 90 days of employment
Preferred :- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four (4)-year college or university in recreation or a related field
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.
Physical Requirements Work performed is physical in nature and involves sufficient physical strength and stamina:
- Frequent sitting, standing, and walking through a multilevel high use public facility; may run to address an emergency situation
- Frequent crouching/squatting, kneeling, and bending/twisting to perform inspections of recreation program equipment, including but not limited to vehicles
- Frequent balance, and reach overhead and below the shoulder as needed
- Frequent light and firm grasps to use program related equipment
- Occasional lifting of ten (10) pounds from floor to overhead to move equipment and supplies; occasional lifting of up to 75 pounds from floor to chest to assist in moving furniture, and equipment
- Work is performed in a public recreation facility and is physical in nature
WORKING CONDITIONSWork is constantly performed indoors with occasional outdoor activity to supervise scheduled recreation activities and events. Indoor and outdoor work is performed in high use public recreation facilities, where loud noises and multiple events and activities at one time may cause a distraction. Exposure to periods of high activity and high stress under demanding conditions. This position requires a great deal of communication with City employees, the public and outside agencies.

The City of Westminster does not participate in the Social Security system. In lieu of Social Security contributions, the city contributes to a 401(a) defined contribution plan on your behalf.
401(a) Contribution Rates:Employee Mandatory Contribution: 11.5% of your base pay. Contributions are pre-tax and fully vested.
Employer Contribution: 12% of your base pay.
