    Job Summary

    Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Academic Advising, the Academic Advisor will provide crucial advising services to support pre-major and major-declared engineering students towards successful degree completion. The incumbent will closely collaborate with faculty advisors and will utilize data-informed practices and various student information systems (i.e. E-Advising technologies) to develop, monitor, and assess programs designed to improve student success and will also identify and assist students who are not making satisfactory degree progress. The Academic Advisor will participate in activities that support the College's student engagement and diversity/equity/inclusion initiatives as well as in campus-wide graduation initiatives. This will include a special focus on reducing the achievement gaps of prioritized students. The incumbent will collaborate with campus partners to plan and coordinate advising and student development related events, and will participate in SOAR advising activities.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Advise Engineering pre-major and major-declared students. Track student progressusing CMS data to ensure that progress in degree based on College's degree progress rules. Use reliable assessment tools for student intake to gauge students' early interest in engineering. Create and build on advising activities that support the College's student success, engagement, and diversity/equity/inclusion initiatives as well as those that conform to the campus' graduation initiatives (e.g., classroom presentations and workshops). Provide General Education advising and collaborate with faculty advisors and departments to provide advising to engineering majors. Provide advising to First Time Freshmen and Transfer students during SOAR events.
    • Participate in student success activities focused on retaining students who are not making satisfactory degree progress. This includes utilizing proactive advising approaches to identify, monitor, and track student success, assist students who are on or approaching Academic Probation. Work collaboratively with advising centers across campus to facilitate seamless transition to other colleges/majors when appropriate. Work closely with professionals from various campus offices (e.g., UCUA, PASS, CDC, CAPS, Health Center, DSS, UOSR).

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

    CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,083 - $7,228 per month.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Proven experience working with students, parents, faculty, and staff. Demonstrates proficiency in computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.). Exhibits strong critical and creative thinking skills, sound decision making and objectivity. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, professional demeanor and ability to be a team player. Exhibits strong oral and written communication skills. Exhibits excellent organizational skills, prioritizes responsibilities, and meets project deadlines. Able to work flexible hours, including evenings, on occasion.

    Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

    Education and Experience

    • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.

    • Master’s degree in Student Development/Educational Counseling or related field preferred

    Physical Summary
