    Job Summary

    The ideal candidate:
    • Strong writer and editor with the ability to craft clear, engaging content for diverse audiences
    • Experience planning and executing social media campaigns across multiple platforms
    • Creative thinker with skills in event conceptualization and promotional storytelling
    • Able to translate complex information into accessible messages for the public and media
    • Skilled at managing media inquiries and supporting public information requests professionally
    • Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
    • Comfortable collaborating with internal teams and advising staff on communications best practices
    • Curious and adaptable, with a willingness to learn and apply emerging media and technology trends
    • Demonstrates sound judgment, discretion, and a commitment to public service

    Qualifications

    The minimum and preferred requirements listed below.While the following requirements outline the minimum qualifications, Human Resources reserves the right to select applicants for further consideration who demonstrate the best qualifications match for the job.     Education and Experience:
    MINIMUM:Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with major coursework in business or public administration, journalism, marketing, public relations, political science, or related field and some recent analytical experience in public communications, public relations, marketing or program management. Relevant public communications, public relations, and social media platform marketing experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
    PREFERRED:In addition to the minimum requirements, possession of an advance degree in a related field and additional progressively responsible experience as defined above in a public agency.

    Licenses and Certification:
    • The ability to obtain a valid California Class C driver's license within ten (10) days of employment; maintain throughout employment.
    • Possess or ability to obtain Public Information Specialist Certification through Cal OES/CSTI within one year of appointment; maintain throughout employment.
    Special Requirements:
    • Must successfully complete an extensive and thorough background investigation, which may include Live Scan fingerprinting prior to hire.
    • DMV printout prior to hire.
    • Will be required to perform disaster service activities pursuant to Government Code 3100-3109.
