    The Job

    The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department invites qualified professionals to apply for the position of Sheriff's Deputy Director of Behavioral Health Program Services*. Deputy Directors plan, direct, coordinate, and evaluate the operation of the divisions within the Behavioral Health units in a law enforcement setting, which includes crisis, emergency, intensive outpatient, and routine outpatient systems and services for the incarcerated population. The Deputy Director will also assist in department-wide program planning and policy formulation.

    The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is establishing an internal Behavioral Health Services Program within its adult correctional facilities to maintain ongoing responsibility for mental health and healthcare services. This transition will support continuity of care for the incarcerated population through integrated services and early intervention, using an ongoing collaborative, multidisciplinary approach focused on improved health outcomes.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a credit check and medical exam, which may include drug and/or TB testing. Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or a permanent U.S. resident.

    Background:
    Candidates must not have been convicted of a felony and must successfully pass an extensive background investigation which includes a fingerprint check and polygraph examination.

    Travel: Travel throughout the County will be required. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation. The incumbent must be willing and able to travel between Sheriff's detention facilities as needed.

    Minimum Requirements

    Education: A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in behavioral science, human services, social work, counseling, psychology, public health, business/public administration, hospital administration, or a closely related field.

    Note: Qualifying degree or coursework must have been completed at a college or university accredited by an accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied by an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.

    --AND--

    Experience: Two (2) years of high-level management experience (managing through subordinate supervisors) in a large, complex mental health agency, public health agency, or human services organization. Qualifying experience MUST include responsibility for program planning and development, personnel administration, operations, and budget/fiscal administration.

    The ideal candidate will be a seasoned program manager with extensive experience in public behavioral health developing and managing a large complex health agency or human services organization and experience in program planning and development, personnel, administration, disaster and emergency operations, and budget/fiscal administration.
