The City of Brier is seeking a certified Building Plans Examiner/ Building Inspector for this residential community located amid a natural landscape about 15 miles north of Seattle. THE BUILDING PLANS EXAMINER/ BUILDING INSPECTOR
The City of Brier is currently recruiting a Building Plans Examiner/Building Inspector. Reporting to the Mayor and contract Building Official, this position is responsible for the enforcement of the State of Washington Building Code as amended by the State Building Code Council and related construction codes and ordinances. In coordination with the contract Building Official, the work involves the examination of plans and specifications, permit issuance, and code enforcement, including assessment of penalty fees for work without a permit or other code violations.
The Building Plans Examiner/Inspector will conduct field inspection of structures in all stages of construction, alteration, and repair for compliance with pertinent building and safety codes and ordinances. This is a skilled, technical position requiring extensive knowledge of current building codes, construction trades, and City ordinances pertaining to structures. Must be able to work with a minimum of supervision and enforce in a decisive, equitable, and conscientious manner of the City’s building codes and ordinances. This position requires the ability to communicate on a technical and rudimental level as needed with the general public as well as various public and private officials.
The position works as part of the City’s Public Works Department which provides sewer, storm drainage, street and park maintenance; protects the city's streams and wetlands; and oversees planning and development within Brier. The City issues approximately 50-75 permits per year for business, land use, and building. With approximately 10 commercial buildings, most of Brier’s development is residential.WHY APPLY
