Modernizes or revamps existing intersections by installing new equipment while existing signals are still in operation. Operates construction and maintenance equipment such as platform trucks, bucket trucks, concrete saws, underground piercing drills and electrical test meters. Hang overhead signs, banners and lights for other departments. Places barricading and traffic control devices to provide for a safe work environment. Inspects traffic signal and intelligent transportation systems work performed by contractors. Coordinates with contractors when construction activities impact traffic signals or intelligent transportation systems infrastructure. Performs other related duties as required. Position Information M&O Sign/Traffic Technician Position Information $ 22.45 - 31.73 an hour Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for performing semi-skilled to skilled tasks related to the installation of pavement markings and maintaining non-electrical traffic control devices in a defined geographical area. M&O Sign/Traffic Specialist Position Information $26.25 - $37.08 The incumbent at the M&O "Sign/Traffic" Specialist position is responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and working with a crew of semi-skilled and skilled workers with the installation of pavement markings, the fabrication of traffic signs, and the installation and maintenance of signs and non-electrical traffic control devices in a defined geographical area. The Specialist position may be a lead worker and provide work direction to lower level positions as needed. WHAT YOU’LL DO The Senior Transportation Engineer supervisors the Active Transportation and Mobility section of the Transportation and Parking Division of Public Works. This position is a working supervisor managing both assigned project workload and overseeing the project work completed by subordinate staff and consultants. This position will also be public facing representing the Active Transportation and Mobility section at public meetings within the community. The position directly oversees the successful delivery of a wide variety of projects, programs, and initiatives. This includes planning, pre-design, design, and construction phases for active transportation projects many of which are funded through Caltrans active transportation program grants. The incumbent will also be called upon to perform technical Traffic Engineering related duties such as traffic signal timing, speed surveys, warrant analyses, and review of development related traffic studies. As a registered professional engineer and/or traffic engineer, the Senior Transportation Engineer is responsible for in-house design work including work performed by subordinate staff.
