Performs surface water maintenance including cleaning the catch basin, cleaning structures, maintenance of the trash rack, sweeping and clean up, pond and ditch maintenance, pipe cleaning, root maintenance, storm water filter maintenance, erosion control, and mosquito control. Locates maintenance areas, maintains service records, and performs video inspections. Performs surface water repairs on manholes, catch basins, gravity mainline, force main, fish passages, side ditch, etc. Performs wastewater maintenance such as grease removal from mainlines, root maintenance, clearing obstructions in manholes, and baiting for rodents. Performs wastewater repairs that include manholes, gravity mainline and force main. Responds to emergencies and on-call status for traffic and BNSF signal problems, downed trees, sewer backups, flooding, fires, motor vehicle accidents, emergency locates, water main breaks, snow and ice events, and spill responses. Supports and assists other departments or agencies such as BNSF, Parks, Fiber, Solid Waste, Fleet Maintenance, and Wastewater Treatment Plant as directed. Performs related duties as assigned. Mixes and applies fertilizers and pesticides to turf areas, trees, shrubs planter beds, and around buildings as directed and authorized. Assists in project work involving forming, pouring, and finishing concrete; constructs, replaces, and maintains signs; constructs installation of kiosks and fences. Performs electrical work including changing outlets, replacing light ballasts, replacing/upgrading damaged light fixtures, and troubleshooting electrical systems. Assists in constructing new parks and landscaped areas, as directed; sets up and cleans up parks and facilities for special events; assists in training and overseeing seasonal employees. Performs related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines High school diploma or GED AND three (3) years of relevant experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of: Materials and equipment used in the maintenance/repair of fields, grounds, landscapes, trails, and facilities. Methods and techniques of maintaining the safety of parks and playgrounds. Basic plant identification. Proper handling of fertilizers and pesticides. Practices and procedures used in turf maintenance, irrigation, landscaping, and pest control. Tools and equipment used in park and facility maintenance. Relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Office practices and computer basics. Skill in: Performing basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, excavation, and landscape skills. Operating tools and equipment safely. Performing heavy manual labor for extended periods of time in all types of weather. Troubleshooting maintenance problems and determining materials and supplies for repair. Organizing and prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines. Interacting tactfully and professionally with City staff, outside agencies, and the public. Maintaining records and files on work performed. Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships. Communicating effectively verbally and in writing. LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Must possess a valid Washington State driver's license. Pesticide Applicator’s License (Public Operator). Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with Air Brake endorsement First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification is required within six (6) months of hire.
