    PLUS EMS Training Differential of 13.5%

    The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District is recruiting for an EMS Nurse Educator to join the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) team. EMS Nurse Educators are tasked with training, educating, and certifying Fire Department Paramedics. Responsibilities include coordinating and monitoring required training; maintaining a working knowledge of current EMS issues and related Federal, State, and County Regulations; assisting the Supervisor with educational and investigation issues related to Quality Improvement programs and complaints; and performing as the department infection control officer.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Background: A successful background check, job-related physical exam, and a drug test are required prior to assignment.

    Work Schedule: Candidates may be required to work on call, overtime, and evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
    License: Maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse with the California Board of Registered Nursing throughout employment.

    Health and Physical Condition: Persons seeking appointment to this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for performance of the duties established by the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District.
    Travel: A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained. Mileage reimbursement may be available.

    Minimum Requirements

    LICENSE: Must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Nurse in the state of California. --AND-- CERTIFICATIONS: Must possess and maintain a current certification for ALS, PALS and BLS. --AND-- EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of experience working with a pre-hospital care system and/or emergency medicine environment as a Nurse, Paramedic, and or EMT.
    --OR--
    Three (3) years of experience teaching or training adults in pre-hospital and/or Emergency Department setting as a Nurse, Paramedic and or EMT.

    NOTE: Ensure your work history clearly details qualifying responsibilities, including possession of related certifications; experience as an Educator (especially for medical personnel); classroom teaching experience in medical activities; and experience with medical informatics, data collection, and electronic patient care records.

    Desired Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will possess a BSN (or higher) and knowledge of electronic patient data collection and medical informatics, along with CQI experience. Additionally, the candidate will have the ability to research, develop and deliver dynamic lesson plans to ALS and BLS personnel, adapting to the many different venues and learning abilities of Fire Department personnel. In addition, possession of Instructor level ACLS, PALS, & BLS certifications, and accredited teaching certificate in EMS education (Fire Instructor A, B, C) or NAEMSE Certification, along with experience as a Mobile Intensive Care Nurse and/or Paramedic. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to communicate complex clinical concepts clearly, effectively, and professionally.
