Job Summary Plans, supervises, and coordinates activities of custodians cleaning City of Bryan facilities and ensures custodial contractual obligations are met. Maintains a flexible schedule to respond to unforeseen problems and may be required to work irregular hours.
Essential Job Functions - Acts as a working supervisor and assumes responsibility for the cleanliness of City buildings and other assigned areas.
- Plans, prioritizes, assigns, supervises, reviews, and participates in the work of custodial staff engaged in a variety of manual tasks in the cleaning and general upkeep of assigned City buildings, facilities and adjacent areas.
- Plans and schedules the work of custodians including the preparation of shift schedules; allocates resources accordingly.
- Participates in the development of goals and objectives as well as policies and procedures; makes recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards, policies, and procedures; participates in the implementation of approved policies and procedures; monitors work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Participates in the selection of assigned staff; provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; implements discipline procedures.
- Monitors performance of contract custodial services; schedules and oversees assigned contractors to ensure quality of work, compliance with City specifications and conformance with department plans and programs.
- Receives, issues and maintains inventory control of custodial supplies.
- Inspects facilities and buildings on a routine basis to monitor quality; inspects and evaluates work in progress and upon completion to assure that repairs, maintenance, and project activities are performed in accordance with City regulations, policies, and operating procedures and practices; identifies problem areas and takes corrective action.
- Monitors work sites and activities and ensures adherence to safe work practices and procedures; responds to and resolves complex work related or equipment operating problems.
- Directs the setup and arrangement of City facilities for meetings.
- Ensures that City buildings and facilities are secured at the end of the custodial work shift.
- Estimates time, materials, and equipment required for jobs assigned; requisitions materials as required.
- Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree plus at least two (2) years of related experience; OR an Associate’s degree plus at least four (4) years of related experience; OR a High School Diploma/ GED plus at least six (6) years of related experience.
- Some previous leadership, supervisory, or management experience is required as determined by the department.
Equivalent combinations of education, experience, certification, and training may be considered.
Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements - Texas Class C driver’s license with a good driving record as measured by the City’s evaluation system.
- Must be able to access facilities that house Texas Criminal Justice Information Services ( CJIS ) System data. As a result, the person selected for the position cannot possess a felony or Class A misdemeanor conviction; or a Class B misdemeanor conviction within the past 10 years.
