    DESCRIPTION

    THE CITY OF PLACENTIA IS NOW HIRING FOR THE 2026 SUMMER SEASON

    SEEKING ENTHUSIASTIC RECREATION STAFF TO JOIN OUR FUN & DYNAMIC TEAM!


    SUMMER RECREATION OPENINGS FOR THE FOLLOWING POSITIONS:

    • COMMUNITY SERVICES LEADER
    • SENIOR COMMUNITY SERVICES LEADER

    Our Community Services staff play an important role in our service to the community. Are you passionate about creating memorable experiences and fostering a sense of community?     IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
    • INTERVIEWS are tentatively scheduled on April 15th and April 18th.
      • PRE-EMPLOYMENT: Candidates hired will start the pre-employment process immediately and will consist of a live-scan, substance abuse test, tuberculosis (TB) test, and physical (Tentatively scheduled for May 9th, provided by the City). All pre-employment clearances must be completed by May 24th.
      • ONBOARDING - Onboarding/new hire orientations will begin during the week of May 25th.
      • TRAINING WEEK - The first day of employment will commence on June 6th.
      • SUMMER PROGRAMS BEGIN - June 22nd.
    • The City will provide the required CPR/First Aid/AED Certification training courses required for this position at no cost to employees; Employees who cannot attend will be responsible for obtaining this training on their own time and expense.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    The following list of functions, duties, and tasks is typical for this classification.     THE POSITIONS/JOB ROLES:
    • COMMUNITY SERVICES LEADER: Assists in conducting assigned community services activities, sports, and other leisure services.

    • SENIOR COMMUNITY SERVICES LEADER: Assists in conducting assigned community services, sports, and other leisure activities.

    ADDITIONAL GENERAL DUTIES:
    • Participates in and leads community services programs and activities such as youth sports, arts and crafts, camps, senior social services, and special events.
    • Officiates games, tournaments, and sports programs; demonstrates skills and explains rules; keeps score.
    • Acts as a chaperone during day camp activities and assists in the transport and monitoring of participants for city-sponsored excursions.
    • Reports maintenance and equipment repair needs to the Community Services Coordinator or Community Services Program Coordinator, or site lead
    • Prepares and maintains attendance and activity records.
    • Assists with furniture arrangement, equipment set-up, and room set-ups.
    • Observes safety and city rules and regulations; ensures park and facility users are aware of rules and regulations.
    OTHER DUTIES:
    • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit and the City.

    TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS
    • COMMUNITY SERVICES LEADER
      • EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: Completion of sophomore year of high school. Previous leadership, volunteer, or recreational experience is desirable.
      • CERTIFICATION:
        • American Red Cross or equivalent CPR, AED, and First Aid certification
        • Tuberculosis (TB) certification from the California Department of Public Health

    • SENIOR COMMUNITY SERVICES LEADER:
      • EXPERIENCE: Must be at least 16 years of age. Previous leadership, volunteer, or recreational experience is required .
      • LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
        • A valid CA driver's license
        • American Red Cross or equivalent CPR, AED, and First Aid certification
        • Tuberculosis (TB) certification from the California Department of Public Health

    In accordance with California Government Code Section 3100, City of Placentia employees, in the event of a disaster, are considered disaster service workers and may be asked to protect the health, safety, lives, and property of the people of the State.

    Retirement - California Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS) PST Deferred Compensation Plan. Contribution to this account is 7.5% per pay period, the City pays 3.75% and the employee pays 3.75% deducted from salary. Additionally, employee pays 1.45% towards Medicare per paycheck.

    Part-Time Alternative Health and Wellness (AHW) Leave -Sick leave equivalent accrues at 1 hour per 30 hours worked, max 40 hours per year, max accrual bank of 80 hours.
