MCFD Service - Teamwork - Operational Readiness - ProfessionalismABOUT THE POSITIONThe Marin County Fire Department is seeking one (1) regular hire, full time Fire Dispatcher in the Marin Emergency Command Center . The regular work schedule is known as a two by four. Employees will be assigned to one of three shifts that work a two day on and four day off work schedule, working a 48-hour shift followed by 96 hours off (this is an average of 10 workdays per month).
*The approximate annual salary range (including built in overtime) for Fire Dispatcher is $112,000 - $136,000 depending on qualifications.

ABOUT YOUOur Highly Qualified Candidate: Our highly qualified candidate will have experience in a dispatch center. We are looking for someone who possesses strong interpersonal skills and can multitask while providing excellent customer service. They will also have the ability to assess emergency situations appropriately and take the required action quickly and calmly while communicating information and instructions clearly by telephone and radio. The incumbent will have an understanding of the Incident Command System (ICS) as well as ICS training and qualifications related to Emergency Command Center (ECC) Operations. They will have an understanding of the California Fire Service Mutual Aid Network. We are looking for someone who has training and experience with Hexagon i/CAD dispatch system. The highly qualified candidate will have knowledge of Hexagon i/CAD Computer Aided Dispatch system, Tablet Command, and Interagency Resource Ordering Capability (IROC). Finally, the ideal candidate will have experience with using Microsoft Suite (including Word and Excel) and Vector Solutions.
QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge of:- Methods, procedures and techniques used in the operation of an Emergency Command Center (ECC), including mutual aid.
- Current electronic and automated emergency service dispatch equipment.
- Operating procedures and methods related to public safety dispatching.
- FCC rules and regulations and other regulations and/or requirements related to fire and emergency medical dispatching.
- Record keeping principles and practices.
- Major roads, streets, geography, facilities, fire and medical response agencies and jurisdictional boundaries of Marin County.
Ability to:- Operate automated public safety dispatch and related communications equipment effectively.
- Assess emergency situations appropriately and take required action quickly and calmly.
- Read and interpret maps to locate streets, roads, highways and facilities involved in fire or other emergency situations.
- Learn, interpret and apply fire and medical emergency dispatch rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Interpret weather data correctly.
- Coordinate the activities of multiple agencies in an emergency situation.
- Communicate information and instructions clearly over the telephone and the radio.
- Use standard office equipment and enter information into a computer system with sufficient speed and accuracy for effective job performance.
- Maintain accurate records and files and prepare accurate narrative and statistical reports.
- Use sound independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Equivalent to graduation from high school
AND equivalent to one year as a Dispatcher Trainee
OR one year of experience as a dispatcher in a public safety agency or similar emergency service organization.
Certificates and Licenses Possession of and/or ability to obtain an Emergency Medical Dispatch Certificate within six (6) months of assignment.
Failure to obtain and/or maintain the Emergency Medical Dispatch Certificate, as appropriate to assignment, during employment will result in the termination of employment.
Special Requirements Ability to successfully pass Pre-Employment Conditions, such as controlled substance screen, background investigation, medical exam, and psychological evaluation.
