    The County of San Joaquin is currently seeking an experienced, innovative, strategic, and collaborative nurse to serve as the Senior Deputy Director of Public Health Nursing. The Senior Deputy Director will be an integral member of the Senior Management leadership team of Public Health Services (PHS) committed to quality improvement, interprofessional leadership, and evidence-based nursing practice. This position will be responsible for leading, administering, and oversight of Program Managers and Program Coordinators in Children's Medical Services, Emergency Preparedness, Disease Control and Prevention, HIV/STD, and Maternal Child and Adolescent Health. In addition, this position serves as the Director of Public Health Nursing in accordance with California Code of Regulations, Title 17, Section 1253. Work also includes directing budgets, functions, and activities of assigned Public Health programs.

  • Job Description

    Senior Deputy Director-Public Health Services Nursing is a single-position, at-will class that is exempt from the San Joaquin County Civil Service system. The incumbent reports to and strategizes with the Chief Deputy Director-Public Health Services and works in consult with the Public Health Officer utilizing their administrative and clinical background to provide senior management level leadership, direction, and policy control regarding all clinical aspects of PHS. This class is distinguished from Senior Deputy Director-PHS in that the latter does not require clinical licensure or engage in work, or provide leadership directly related to, the execution of clinical services. Both classifications may perform senior management level administrative work of all types. The incumbent is expected to model a strong work ethic and leadership skills, including accountability for oneself and others. The incumbent interfaces extensively with external agencies and may represent the Chief Deputy Director-Public Health Services in his/her absence. This position serves as the Director of Public Health Nursing in accordance with the State of California Code of Regulations, Title 17, Section 1253.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    Experience: Two years managing a public health nursing program or service.
    License: Valid California driver’s license.
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    The following qualifications are required subject to compliance with California Code of Regulations Title 17, Section 1301.
    Experience: Three years of progressively responsible public health nursing. 
    Education: Graduation from a program accredited by the National League for Nursing from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s in public health nursing or master’s degree with preparation in Nursing Administration, Supervision or Consultation.
    Certificate: Valid Public Health Nurse certificate issued by the State of California.
