OverviewThe Engineer's Assistant II provides assistance and technical support to the Engineering Design Division in the preparation of detailed plans and specifications for capital improvement and Gas Department projects.
Responsibilities• Coordinates with field personnel during construction projects
• Develops drawings from field notes
• Plots elevations and calculates quantities and distances
• Assists with surveying operations including leveling, traversing and computations
• Provides alignment of pipelines to avoid conflicts with other utilities. Determine location of existing gas lines and stake locations for project construction
• Prepares construction plans and specifications after records have been researched and design information has been compiled
• Reviews metes and bounds descriptions for accuracy
• Verifies legal descriptions by checking recorded plats
• Provides information for gas tap and line locations, platting, utility easement and right-of-way
• Answers questions from field personnel, City Staff, engineering consultants, contractors and the public relating to existing gas infrastructures
• Assists with recording data
• Provides information, data, research, studies, and reports
• Provides public assistance for information from department records
• Operates Computer Aided Drafting and Design systems
• Prepares plats and drawings of City-owned property, easements, and right-of-way. Reviews plans and permit applications for utility organizations
• Assists in the evaluation and development of assigned personnel, employee performance documentation
• Meets with subordinate and I or other personnel to instruct drafting methodology and time constraints
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non- Exempt - Full-Time
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

Minimum Qualifications • Associate's degree (AA/AS) or Two (2) Year Technical Certificate
• Four (4) Years of related job experience
Licenses and Certifications Required • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
Preferred Qualifications • Working knowledge of CADD and GIS software
• Working knowledge of survey equipment
• Working knowledge of GPS unit and equipment

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
