This paid internship is designed for students currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree and provides hands-on experience while developing professional skills in a local government setting.
Interns are expected to work a minimum of 29 hours per week for up to a 14-week period. Internship positions are paid for the full duration of the program; however, interns are not eligible for City employee benefits.
To enhance the internship experience, the City offers structured on-the-job training, learning and development opportunities, strategic engagement, and performance evaluation.
PROGRAM OVERVIEWInterns will receive project assignments through the Development Services Department, designed to provide broad exposure to local government operations with a focus on Coastal Resource Management.
Students with an interest in environmental stewardship, public engagement, and regulatory processes are encouraged to apply. Interns will gain experience in:
- Coastal resource and environmental management
- Surveying and basic geomorphology
- Permitting processes for development projects
- Local government operations and interdepartmental collaboration
Through the Internship Program, interns will have the opportunity to:
- Explore career interests and professional goals
- Network with local government professionals
- Expand knowledge of municipal operations
- Develop practical, field-related skills

QUALIFICATIONSApplicants must meet the following criteria:
- Currently completing coursework toward a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Maritime Resource Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field
- Completion of at least 25% of the required degree curriculum at an accredited college or university
- Actively pursuing the degree at the time of application
Individuals who have earned a qualifying degree within six (6) months of applying may also be considered.
Applicants should demonstrate an interest in public service and possess strong leadership, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
