Overview
The Vehicle Maintenance Technician II is responsible for preventative maintenance on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, structural, fuel, air conditioning, and hydraulic systems on light to heavy equipment according to safety requirements. This position provides the highest quality of maintenance, repair, inspection, and servicing of vehicles and equipment that align with departmental requirements for the City of Corpus Christi. Additional duties may include fuel operations and repair and replace tires on vehicles operated by the city such as heavy equipment or light duty vehicles.
Responsibilities
• Service and repair all types of vehicles and equipment using various techniques, tools, equipment, computers, and systems, utilizing a checklist; to include, but not limited to, brakes, steering, suspension, electrical systems, engines, hydraulics, cooling systems, fuel systems, tires and exhaust system
• Complete minor services such as replacing lamps, belts, hoses and tire repairs
• Assist Quality Control with preventative maintenance of the city generators at their locations
• Stick read the underground fuel tanks for Street and Fleet Maintenance, and all bulk tank levels as needed
• Inspect all fuel buckets for generators
• Maintain fuel stations to prevent spills or accidents
• Performs service station attendant duties to include dispensing of fuel and oil
• Upkeep and maintain Wash Rack
• Monitor fuel levels by reading inventory printouts and stick reading the fuel tanks
• Provide over-watch for receipt of fuel from vendor
• Deliver fuel from fuel trucks as required
• Inspect all dispenser hoses, nozzles, breakaways for leaks, electrical equipment monitors, alarms, sensors, and lights
• Respond to service calls throughout the city
• Change, repair, or replace tires on City vehicles
• Perform safety inspections on equipment when repairing/replacing tires, i nspecting for missing lugs or lug nuts, damaged rims and abnormal tire wear
• Complete the necessary repairs and road test
• Prevent possible oil spills and maintain the Fleet shop
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Non-Exempt-Full-Time-Monday- Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
• Must be available to work additional hours as needed
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma/GED
• One (1) to two (2) years of experience is required
Licenses and Certifications
Required
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring
Required within six (6) months of hire
• City forklift certification
Required within one (1) year of hire
• Class B Commercial Driver License
• State Inspectors' License

Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
