  • Job Description

    The Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH), Office of Human Resources, seeks a Human Resources Generalist to support Central Office team members. This position will be part of the Central Office Human Resources team, and is based in Jefferson City, Missouri.

    You will be part of a wide-scale process improvement effort, implementing impactful changes critical to ensuring consistent, accurate, and high-quality data. You will develop a unique skillset needed for our continuous improvement efforts as we use this data for impactful decision-making. You will have the opportunity to work with and assist team members across the State, providing variety in daily work.

    The base salary offered for this position ranges from $50,000.00 - $56,000.00, commensurate with education and experience. If the selected candidate is eligible for a pay differential, such as retention pay, the total salary may exceed what is listed in this posting.

    • Serve as a point of contact for Central Office supervisors in the recruitment and hiring process, including posting positions through HireTrue, reviewing applications, coordinating background screenings, and completing employment eligibility verification.
    • Advise Central Office staff on HR-related issues including policy interpretation, leave administration, and position management.
    • Understand and communicate benefits to Central Office employees, including changes in health insurance, retirement, life insurance, Cafeteria Plan, and Deferred Compensation.
    • Coordinate and process personnel actions across various systems, including SAMII HR, ensuring accurate data entry by pre-determined cutoff dates.
    • Assist with timekeeping processing, including:
      • Entering manual timesheets for Hourly and Intermittent employees.
      • Using Excel to process shift differential files and review CPER files for errors.
    • Participate in process improvement efforts, including giving advice on best practices, providing suggestions for improvement, and occasionally leading projects for improvement.
    • Monitor compliance with state and federal employment regulations and internal policies.
    • Assist in other areas of HR as needed.


    Bachelor’s degree preferred with a major in Human Resources, Business or other related fields or 3-5 years of relevant experience in Human Resources. Relevant experience may substitute for education.

    Willingness to learn and work in a fast-paced team environment. Strong time management, organizational skills, as well as the ability to analyze data, troubleshoot issues, and propose practical solutions. Proficiency in Excel. Ability to protect and maintain strict confidentiality.
