  • Job Description

    Overview

    Provide the highest quality of maintenance and repair for the variety of equipment that the Public Works department has.

    Responsibilities

    • Diagnoses and determines if the heavy equipment, light equipment, and tractors can be repaired or if they need to be replaced
    • Use testing equipment to diagnose equipment malfunctions then repair in accordance with the service manuals, manufacturer's specifications
    • Complete work orders, fill in required data to open/close work orders
    • Calculates materials, supplies and parts that are needed for repairs
    • Coordinate with Work Coordinators to schedule maintenance and repairs
    • Obeying all traffic laws while operating fleet vehicle and equipment from one location to another
    • Be able to operate on even or uneven terrain such as streets & earthen rights-of- way
    • Performing dally Pre/Post-trip Inspections on all types of equipment and vehicles.
    • General housekeeping around the shop: keep walkways clear, clean up spills, block off hazards, remove trash, dispose of properly, keep toolboxes and workstations organized
    • Maintain safe keeping of materials and supplies in storage area
    • Must be able to communicate with internal or external customers
    • When given a request, ensure proper communication with the foreman, work coordinator, planner/scheduler, and assistant director
    • Complete dally reports, work orders
    • All reports and work orders must be legible
    • Respond to after hours and weekends emergencies
    • Must work under emergency responses during and or after any city emergency event. Example: Hurricanes, tropical storms, Ice storms or any other city emergency
    • All employees will work On-Call Duty rotation schedule and must be able to work different rotation shift under emergency responses
    • Follow the Traffic Control Standards as per the Texas MUTCD Work Zone Traffic Control Gulde
    • Direct traffic control at job site by flagging, cones, barrel and barricades. Know how to setup water barrier, Type I, II, II Barricade during normal & emergency operations.
    • Be professional under any conditions
    • Follow all City policies
    • Performs other duties as assigned


    Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

    • Non-Exempt - Full-Time - Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
    • Must be available to work additional hours as needed
    • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
    • In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High School Diploma/GED
    • Two (2) years' experience.


    Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements

    Required

    • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring
    • Texas Commercial Driver's License Class A with air brake endorsement within 1 year of hire
    • Proof of Automobile Liability Insurance

    Basis of Rating

    A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
