    Behavior Technician

    Northwest Community Services’ Optimistic Beginnings is a State of Missouri agency that operates under the Department of Mental Health. NWCS is currently recruiting to fill several Behavioral Technician positions to work in Marshall, Missouri .

    This is an entry-level behavioral technician position. You would be part of a treatment team that works together to empower and support individuals to succeed in treatment. This includes supporting them during various tasks and activities, working with individuals on meeting their personal goals and objectives, promoting healthy coping skills to manage challenging situations, modeling healthy skill use, and teaching individuals how to complete other daily living skills and activities.

    Optimistic Beginning’s mission is to create an enriched, positive environment that is therapeutic and will assist individuals with learning new coping skills that will lead to a stable, successful placement back into a community of their choice. Our program is based on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and all staff are DBT trained. We are committed to person centered care and take a trauma-informed approach to individuals who are diagnosed with both a mild developmental disability as well as multiple mental illnesses such as Borderline Personality Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Bi-Polar Disorder, etc.

    Multiple shifts are available. Additional shift differential is available for certain shifts. Overtime hours are available and/or required.

    Job Duties: Observes, reports, and assists in recording changes in the physical condition, behavioral response, and emotional status of clients; assists in providing basic health care for clients; checks vital signs, and applies simple dressings; maintains a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for client care and treatment activities; administers medication after completing training that is provided by the agency; uses state vehicles to transport clients to appointments and activities; assists clients in participating in activities (fishing, shopping, going to the movies, out to eat, etc.) with the clients; assists clients with meals, bathing, grooming, etc. as needed.

    Skills Needed: Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for clients; understand and follow directions; accurately report and record observations; accept and adapt to changes in assignments, methods, and policies; establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, supervisors, and the general public, exercise good judgment and discretion in the performance of job duties.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Must possess a High School Diploma or its equivalent
    • 18 years of age
    • Must possess a valid Missouri Driver's License as necessary, drive during the day or night, in rural, highway, or metro conditions to transport individuals to a variety of locations for appointments employment, leisure or vactions.
    • Possess adequate vision to read written material
    • Possess adequate hearing
    • Must be able to physically intervene to maintain safety
    • Experience with trauma-informed services or personal recovery experience is preferred but not required
