OPEN TO THE PUBLIC This recruitment is open to the public and being held to establish an eligible list to fill current and future Maintenance Elevator Mechanic positions within OC Public Works. This recruitment may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower-level classifications throughout the County of Orange.

THE OPPORTUNITY OC Public Works has an opportunity for an Elevator Mechanic position within the Facilities Maintenance Service Area. The Elevator Mechanic is a skilled tradesperson who is a fully certified Competent Conveyance Mechanic (CCCM). As a journey-level mechanic, the Elevator Mechanic services and repairs all conveyances, parts and related equipment. Under general supervision, the incumbent performs skilled electrical and mechanical work in the inspection, maintenance and repair of conveyances including but not limited to elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters and related equipment.
WORK HOURS: (9/80) Schedule 7:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M. Monday-Friday.
Please note that this position requires the incumbent to be available for on-call services. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES The successful candidate will possess two (2) years of journey-level experience as a fully licensed Certified Competent Conveyance Mechanic (CCCM). In addition, the successful candidate will possess knowledge and experience in the following core competencies:
Technical Knowledge | Experience- Knowledge and experience in preventive maintenance and inspections of elevators, escalators, and similar equipment to comply with safety regulations and building codes.
- Knowledge of National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) specifications and requirements as related to the repair and installation of wiring systems and equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints to determine the layout of system components and to select the equipment needed for installation or repair.
- Knowledge of s afety codes, regulations and procedures applicable to major repairs and maintenance of elevators.
Problem Solving | Organization- Demonstrate the ability to work independently and manage time wisely.
- Demonstrate the ability to meet departmental deadlines by prioritizing workloads and projects.
- Possess the ability to identify and address areas of concern in a timely and effective manner.
- Possess the ability to repair to electrical systems and adjust rapidly to new situations warranting attention and resolution.
Communication Skills- Possess good communication skills to appropriately interact with the general public, contractors, and outside departments and agencies.
- Demonstrate the ability to present thoughts, ideas, information, and messages clearly, and logically.
- Deliver technical and conceptual information clearly and articulately, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrate the ability to maintain record of work completed, timekeeping records, equipment, and material usage for each work order.
REQUIRED LICENSES A valid Certified Competent Conveyance Mechanic (CCCM) certification prior to appointment. The incumbent must possess a
General Certification or
Limited Certification.
The Limited Certification must include Elevator, Chair Lift, and Dumbwaiter.
Possession of, or ability to obtain before appointment, a valid California Driver License, Class C or higher.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS
Human Resource Services (HRS) will screen all application materials to identify qualified applicants. After the screening, qualified applicants will be referred to the next step and notified of all further procedures applicable to their status in the competition.
Structured Oral Interview (Weighted 100%): Candidates will be interviewed and rated by a qualification appraisal panel of job knowledge experts. Only the most successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list.
Based on the Department's needs, the selection procedures listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedure.
Eligible ListOnce the assessment has been completed, HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
