    Due to the hands-on, confidential nature of the position, remote work is not an option.

    This mental health professional will:

    Confidentially respond to or triage potentially traumatic events and mental health crises for staff working in a correctional setting, with a focus on stabilization, coping skill development, debriefing, and resource connection.

    Will conduct initial screenings and make appropriate referrals to other resources or specialists as needed.

    Will follow-up with employees that have experienced potentially traumatic events or mental health challenges to develop an appropriate care plan.

    Will provide mental health support and expertise to supervisors and peers of employees who are experiencing symptoms of traumatic stress and/or mental health challenges.

    Will develop trauma-informed education and training for staff.

    Will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in order to garner support for the work being done by MoDOC to support staff.

    Will encourage and facilitate an environment in Corrections that alleviates stigma related to mental health and promotes positive organizational change.

    Will evaluate effectiveness of various mental health resources, programs and trainings that may be of support to MoDOC staff.

    Will prepare monthly reports and complete appropriate documentation of services provided.

    Will comply with federal and state laws related to mandated reporting and protected health information.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Candidates must be a licensed mental health professional in the State of Missouri (LPC, LMSW, or LCSW) with a minimum of two years of experience in a mental health setting focused on trauma-informed care (preferably in a first responder, forensic, or similar setting).

    Preferred five years of experience providing clinical services to a range of individuals, addressing a wide variety of problems and disorders in a varied setting.

    Must be able to maintain professional licensure while employed with this department

    Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

    • A high degree of cultural competence and background in trauma-informed care.
    • On occasion, be able to flex schedule to respond on evenings or weekends
    • Must be free of alcohol and chemical dependency.
    • Have excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Must be able to maintain agency and employee confidentiality.


    All requested documents MUST be received by the closing date listed.

    Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:

    • A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
    • A $0.75 per hour maximum security stipend if you work full-time at a qualifying facility.
    • A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.


    The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!
