    In addition to the current opening, this recruitment may be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates to fill future Career Service vacancies within the Solid Waste Division over the next six (6) months.

    About this Role:

    As an Administrator II, you will be supporting a large regional landfill, shop, and eight transfer stations, and closed landfills. Your work is vital to ensuring the smooth, equitable, and efficient operation of essential public infrastructure. This role provides key administrative support that directly impacts frontline operations, from staffing and contracts to purchasing, training coordination, database management, and process improvements. You'll work collaboratively with field teams, leadership, and external partners to manage projects, interpret policies, track finances, and support strategic initiatives that benefit both internal teams and the broader community.

    Job Duties

    What You Will Be Doing:
    • Develop and coordinate programs or projects for Operations work units and cross functionally as needed.
    • Participate in strategic planning and development and/or revise work procedures and process improvement.
    • Analyze and evaluate data for assigned projects and technical systems and present options to management.
    • Participate and direct in providing business and support services for Operations.
    • Develop and manage projects of limited scope within the unit.
    • Respond to questions from supervisors, managers, employees, and the public.
    • Supervise other administrative staff.
    • Ensure the creation and/or maintenance and action of databases such as telecom, CRM system, Neo Gov, Concur, and more.


    Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

    Qualifications You Bring:
    • Intermediate to Advanced level in using various computer software, such as but not limited to: Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint. (NOTE: Candidates deemed competitive will be skills tested.)
    • Demonstrated experience organizing and maintaining confidential digital and physical records and data, ensuring proper handling, secure storage, and compliance.
    • Demonstrated experience frequently handling small work unit projects with limited scope. Examples can include creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and provide SOP training, converting hard copy information to electronic data, policy implementation, etc.
    • Demonstrated experience with identifying, analyzing, and improving specific internal processes, contributing to enhanced efficiency and operational excellence within work unit.
    • Effective communicator with a strong customer service orientation; experienced in engaging respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds, demonstrating empathy, professionalism, and cultural awareness.
    • This position requires the ability to travel in a timely manner to various work locations, including to sites which may not be served by public transportation. County vehicles may be available to utilize.

    Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and transport 30 lbs as needed. This includes, but is not limited to, industrial/office materials, food items, etc.

    It Would be Great if You Also Bring:
    • Experience using systems such as NEOGOV, Customer Relationship Management, BI Insights (Business Intelligence tools) or similar platforms.
    • Experience working with multiple managers and supervisors in a unionized environment.
    • Experience supervising or leading people and their work


    Supplemental Information

    Working Conditions:
    • Work Location: The primary work location is Cedar Hills Regional Landfill, 16645 228 th Ave SE, Maple Valley, WA 98038.
    • Work Schedule: This position works Mon - Fri, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible with supervisor approval. After probation has been satisfactorily completed, alternative work schedules may be considered.
    • Union Representation: This position is represented by Teamsters 117 Professional and Technical.
