    Why you’ll love this position:

    The Missouri Department of Agriculture (MDA) Plant Industries Division, Bureau of Feed and Seed assists the state’s feed industry and consumers through inspecting and testing product and providing information to consumers to assist in making buying decisions. This position will perform chemical examinations on feed, feed ingredients, and pet food samples according to established procedures. Types of analysis include nutritional guarantees, drug and antibiotic levels, and possible adulterants in samples. We are looking for a Laboratory Scientist/Senior Laboratory Scientist to join our hard-working team!

    The salary indicated represents the current regular pay rate for this position. If the individual selected is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., Years of Service), it will be added to total compensation on their paycheck. A pay differential does not raise base pay.

    • Maintain sample integrity through preparation, documentation, and analysis.
    • Receive and p repare samples utilizing grinding equipment.
    • Perform data entry for test submissions and test results using laboratory information management system.
    • Conduct quantitative and qualitative chemical analysis to detect and verify composition and contaminates using established procedures.
    • Prepare reports detailing the results of analysis and studies, and daily documentation of calibration and quality control checks .
    • Track and monitor quality control instances for tests conducted.
    • Follow the Quality Management System under ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation requirements.
    • Maintain laboratory equipment according to established procedures.
    • Other duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Four (4) or more years experience working in a laboratory environment. Post-secondary degree with emphasis in Agriculture, Animal Science and/or Nutrition, Biology, Chemistry, or closely related fields will count toward experience.
    • Valid MO Driver’s License


    Additional Qualifications:

    • Ability to interpret data from a variety of instrumentation.
    • Ability to troubleshoot a variety of instruments.
    • Ability to travel to meetings and trainings, and some overnight travel.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Excel, Word, and other software applications in the performance of duties.
    • Ability to represent the department in a professional manner.
    • Ability to defend data in court, in the need arises.
    • Ability to prioritize work based on the type of incoming samples.
    • Ability to work independently, identify tasks, standardize procedures, and provide feedback to the program.
    • Ability to work well with fellow scientists and managers.
    • Ability to complete work in an allotted amount of time, usually one week.
    • Ability to provide presentations to fellow employees and others on an as needed basis.
