The primary mission of the department is to protect and enrich the community through the sustainable delivery of projects and services. THE OPPORTUNITY OCPW has an exciting opportunity for experienced Electricians. The Agency is seeking an experienced journey-level Electricianwho will be troubleshooting, repairing, installing, upgrading, fixing, and maintaining electrical instruments at the facilities, systems, control devices, electrical equipment, and operating with voltage levels of up to and including 4,160 volts. The Electrician works under general supervision and performs other journey-level electrical work as assigned. As the County of Orange’s electrical infrastructure is a mixture of old and new, the Electrician must be comfortable working on a variety of electrical systems in various states of repair, from brand new modern buildings to decades-old buildings.
This position works a 9/80 work schedule, which means an early start to the work day and every other Friday as a regular day off.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES The ideal candidate will demonstrate four (4) or more years of experience as a commercial electrician in non-residential settings such as airports, recreation facilities, government agencies, businesses and retail establishments, offices, restaurants, commercial constructions sites, banks, schools and hospitals; as well as operating with voltage levels of up to and including 4,160 volts, and working with a Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to receive work orders and record documentation of completed tasks.
LICENSE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS The successful candidate must possess, obtain, and maintain the following licenses:
- A valid California Driver's License, Class C or higher
- A valid State of California Electrical License/Certificate or C-10 Electrical Contractor License

In addition to the desirable qualifications, the ideal candidate must possess extensive experience in the following core competencies:
Technical Knowledge- Performing maintenance and repairs on constant current regulators, their associated monitoring systems, on building electrical distribution systems, lift stations, security systems, and fire protection systems, etc.
- Installing, testing, calibrating, and maintaining complex control systems, analyzers, electrical switchgear, distribution equipment, and safety interlocks
- Working with emergency generators, including gas and diesel, parallel operations, bus transfer, and switchgear such as Russ Electric, Onan, and Asco
- Utilizing motor control of 5 to 200 horsepower, various types of starters are used on 480-volt three-phase, types of overloa,d and variable speed controls
- Understanding State and local laws, ordinances, codes, and regulations pertaining to all aspects of electrical wiring systems and equipment installation and maintenance
- Ability to install conduit and related fittings for new or extending circuits
- Knowledge of Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)

RECRUITMENT PROCESS Human Resource Services (HRS) will screen all applications and supplemental responses for the minimum qualifications. After the initial screening, qualified applicants will be referred to the next step of the selection process. All applicants will be notified via email of their status in the process.
Proctored Online Exam | Multiple-choice Test (Refer/ Non-refer): Applicants whose work experience appear to best meet the needs of the department will be invited to participate in a proctored online exam covering job-related items. Only applicants who receive the highest score on the assessment will be moved on to the next assessment step. This exam must be attended in-person.
Performance Exam| Performance Test (Weighted 100%): Applicants will be evaluated based on practical job exercises designed to assess each applicant’s qualifications for the job. Only the most successful applicants will be placed on the eligible list.
Based on the Department's needs, the selection procedures listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedure. Completion of a background investigation to the satisfaction of the County may be required for some assignments. Eligible ListOnce the assessment has been completed, Human Resource Services will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
