    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

    Under the direction of the Exhibit Shop Manager, this position is responsible for performing advanced (senior-level) exhibit and graphic design work in consultation with other Exhibit Planning and Design staff. Products designed by this position include: interior exhibit spaces, cabinetry and displays, graphic panels for interior and exterior exhibits, publications, flyers, illustrations, etc. This position works in a group setting but must be able to independently manage a complex workload of many projects running simultaneously with various deadlines. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Design, Graphic Design, Art or closely related field.

    Experience:

    Five years experience in the design, visualization, development and implementation of exhibits and exhibit components or related experience such as trade shows, advertising, marketing or cartography.

    Licensure:

    Applicant Must possess or be able to obtain and hold within 30 days of employment, a Texas class "C" driver's license.

    ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:

    Education:

    One additional year of the required experience, may substitute for 30 hours of the required education, with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Exhibit Design, Art, Graphic Design, 3D Modeling, Architecture or related field.

    Experience:

    Seven years experience in the design, visualization, development and implementation of exhibits and exhibit components.

    Five years experience adapting Geographic Information Services (GIS) data into graphic orientation maps in a park, outdoor recreation, or similar setting.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    Knowledge of exhibit design and production techniques;

    Knowledge of graphic design styles and techniques;

    Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and how it applies to the design and production of exhibit components;

    Knowledge of computer software used in graphic design and 3d exhibit design;

    Knowledge of project management and time management techniques;

    Knowledge of illustration styles and techniques;

    Knowledge of the principles and goals of interpretation;

    Knowledge of design accessibility standards related to exhibitory;

    Knowledge of large-scale printing and sign fabrication techniques;

    Knowledge of the principles of GIS data as it relates to the creation of topographical orientation maps;

    Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook;

    Skin in effective verbal and written communication;

    Skill in designing exhibit spaces and exhibit components;

    Skill in the use of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign as well as CAD software;

    Skill in creation of informational graphics and illustrations;

    Skill in working collaboratively;

    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts;

    Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner;

    Skill in evaluating design for production effectiveness, legibility and overall quality;

    Skill in working on several projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and client needs;

    Skill in adapting raw GIS data into aesthetically pleasing and easily understood map products;

    Skill in creating and manipulating three dimensional shapefiles and toolpaths for use by automated fabrication tools such as CNC, 3D printer, laser engraver, ect.;

    Ability to use the tools and software related to design, production and installation of exhibit components;

    Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects;

    Ability to work with outside contractors to obtain desired results;

    Ability to research the anatomy/structure, habitats and habits of the flora and fauna past and present of Texas and apply it to creating exhibit components;

    Ability to learn new design and production techniques;

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program;

    Ability to operate large-format printer, lamination equipment and related software.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Required to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday;

    Required to work overtime as necessary;

    May be required to operate a State vehicle;

    Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays;

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
