    Job Summary:

    The purpose of this position is to assist the exhibition designer in the design, mounting and installation of artwork for exhibition. Additionally, this role will also maintain museum protocols for the safe handling art and artifacts.

    Responsibilities:

    Exhibition Support

    Under close supervision, assists in the physical setup and breakdown of permanent, temporary, and visiting exhibitions. Follows guidance from curators, designers, and senior staff to handle basic installation tasks such as unboxing artwork, placing display objects, and setting up gallery spaces. Assists in the preparation and organization of tools and materials needed for exhibition work.

    Collection and Storage Assistance

    Supports museum staff by helping to store and organize permanent and visiting collections. Assists with packing items for transportation under supervision. Performs basic checks on environmental conditions (e.g., temperature and humidity) using installed monitoring equipment as trained. Follows established procedures to maintain safe and secure handling of artwork and materials.

    Student Exhibition Assistance

    Assists faculty and students with the setup of Master of Fine Arts and Master of Arts student exhibitions in gallery spaces and/or virtual platforms. Performs entry-level support tasks such as preparing materials, moving pedestals or frames, and assisting with basic labeling or signage. May help with simple fabrication activities using analog tools or pre-defined digital templates, under supervision.

    Facilities and Event Support

    Monitors general cleanliness and organization of the gallery prep area. Assists other staff members with event setup and takedown, including moving tables, chairs, and signage. Follows procedures when working in proximity to museum surveillance and alarm systems, reporting any issues to senior staff for resolution.

    Other Classification-Related Duties as Assigned

    Performs other entry-level support tasks as assigned by the supervisor, including assistance with inventory, minor equipment maintenance, and general clerical tasks.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Equivalent to six months of experience performing support services for an instructional program and involving such activities as preparing, producing, dispensing, or storing materials, supplies, and equipment required.

    Or
    • Equivalent to one year of experience in ordering, purchasing. accounting or in office work related to technical materials, supplies or equipment or in an office which provided similar services to a technical function or unit.

    Or
    • Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Knowledge of procedures and practices related to providing support services; knowledge of procedures and practices related to ordering, issue and inventory.
    • Ability to learn quickly the names, uses, and care of common types of materials, supplies, and equipment used in the instructional program to which assigned; ability to inspect materials, supplies, and equipment to determine their suitability for various uses; ability to prepare and follow schedules for providing service;
    • ability to count and perform simple arithmetic calculations; ability to read and write at a level suitable for performance on the job.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Familiarity and experience with hand tools, woodworking equipment, basic wood shop fabrication methods
    • Math skills
    • Knowledge of digital and electronic interfaces and fabrication methods
    • Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve across a range of media and situations
    • Ability to work at heights (installing and adjusting lighting, projectors; painting, etc.)
    • Ability to work independently, and/or in collaboration with others, and/or under time constraints
    • Familiarity with handling of art and artifacts in accordance with AAM - accreditation standards
    • Bachelor of Art or Bachelor of Science in any field
    • One year’s experience in a similar or related position


    Compensation and Benefits:


    The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.

    Initial salary step placement will be at 0.50 time base, between Step 1 ($1,730.50 per month) to Step 18 ($2,423.50 per month) for qualified candidates.

    Classification Salary Step Range at 1.0 time base: $3,461 per month - $4,847 per month (Salary Step 1 - Step 18)

    The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year.     Background Check

Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

    Drivers License Check

    Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.
