The Job
The Sheriff's Department is recruiting for Latent Fingerprint Examiners who perform latent (partial) print analysis and comparison work; determine latent print usability for entry into Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS); and make positive identification/exclusion of latent prints to known and unknown subjects.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
1) Background: Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass an extensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony.
2) Shift: The Sheriff's Department operates 24/7, and incumbents may be required to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call.
3) Travel: A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.
4) Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following options:
Option 1: Two (2) years of full-time journey-level experience in fingerprint classification and identification in a law-enforcement organization that includes the use of federal, state, county, and local identification systems. Experience equivalent to a San Bernardino County Fingerprint Examiner II .
-OR-
Option 2: One (1) year of full-time experience involving searching, analyzing, and identifying latent fingerprints/palm prints in a law-enforcement organization that includes the use of federal, state, county, and local identification systems. Experience equivalent to a San Bernardino County Latent Fingerprint Examiner.
Note: Time spent as a Fingerprint Examiner I (Trainee) must be listed separately on the application.
Desired Qualifications
Certified Latent Print Examiner (CLPE) certificate from the International Association for Identification (IAI) is strongly preferred. Possession of a court transcript or letter confirming the court has qualified you as an expert witness in the latent fingerprint field is highly desirable.

Examination : There will be a competitive evaluation of qualifications based on a review of the Application and Supplemental Questionnaire.
