    ABOUT THE POSITION

    There is one 0.5 FTE Support Services Worker II position, contingent hire, in the Health and Human Services Department's Social Services Division's Office of Aging and Adults Services (AAS) to perform ongoing daily essential functions for the Area Agency on Aging's (AAA's) Older American's Act-funded congregate meal and home-delivered meal programs. The Information & Assistance Unit Supervisor supervises this position and works closely with the AAA’s senior program coordinator, who manages the nutrition provider contracts, and the AAA’s federally and state-required registered dietitian. This position works closely with clients, the Nutrition Team, and the volunteers of this program. The expectation is for the incumbent to work independently scheduling in-home assessments and conducting client assessments over the phone and in clients’ homes to determine program eligibility and refer clients to other County and community services.

    Responsibilities include drafting and maintaining program manuals and procedures; managing, tracking, and updating nutrition data; and the onboarding, training, supporting, and coordination of the volunteers in their duties. Additionally, the Support Service Worker II serves as liaison between nutrition clients and AAA nutrition staff and social work staff; fields client inquiries and resolves minor client complaints; formats and distributes nutrition program and health education information to program participants. Incumbent will also attend weekly nutrition operations meetings to coordinate work with other staff in the nutrition program and perform administrative tasks as needed such as tracking volunteer hours and network credential needs.

    HIGHLY DESIRABLE :
    Bilingual skills in Spanish and English are highly desirable.

    Bilingual Testing/Certification:
    The successful candidate must possess bilingual skills and must demonstrate proficiency in both Spanish and English prior to appointment. A bilingual proficiency exam will be administered to ensure the candidates possess the appropriate skill level to meet the requirements.

    The ideal candidate has experience working in large public social services agencies serving clients of all racial and socio-economic backgrounds. The incumbent will possess excellent skills in the following areas: verbal and written communication, critical thinking, problem solving, interpersonal, client engagement, and collaboration. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, able to perform technical and complicated tasks with a high degree of accuracy, and able to work independently as well as in teams. Additionally, the candidate will have experience utilizing large databases and software applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook in a work setting.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    Knowledge of
    • The ethnic, economic, and social factors affecting residents and special populations of the community or clients served by Health and Human Services programs.
    • Major community resources including social, employment and health services.
    • Ethnic, economic and social barriers which inhibit residents from seeking and receiving services and methods of overcoming or lowering service providing barriers.
    • Acceptable household management and personal care standards such as basic nutrition, economical meal planning, money management and budgeting and personal health and hygiene standards, methods and practices.
    • Normal health needs of infants, children, adolescents, adults, and aged persons.
    • Signs and symptoms requiring medical assistance.
    • Interviewing and information gathering techniques.
    • Computer applications related to the work.
    • Standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment.
