    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    PHYSICAL WORK ADDRESS: Dinosaur Valley State Park, 1629 Park Road 59, Glen Rose, TX 76043

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

    This is a rare opportunity to help connect visitors with some of Texas' most unique and precious resources - dinosaur tracks! The person who succeeds in this role will serve Dinosaur Valley State Park in being a premier interpretive site for the entire Texas State Park system. If you bring a positive attitude, flexibility, and a desire to serve, we look forward to working with you!

    Under the direction of the Lead Park Interpreter, this position performs routine (journey-level) state park operations work including interpretation and the preservation of Dinosaur Valley State Park. Promotes conservation and stewardship of natural & cultural resources. Responsible for interpreting the geological setting of the park as well as providing information about park history. Conducts interpretive programs, tours, hikes, and special events and promotes outreach programs with schools, libraries, scouts, and other organizations. Assists with maintenance and cleaning of park buildings and grounds, and other park projects. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree.

    Experience :

    No experience required.

    Licensure :

    Must possess a valid State driver's license at the time of hire.

    NOTE: Retention of position is contingent on obtaining and maintaining required license.

    ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS :

    Education :

    One year of experience in Interpretation or conducting education programs may substitute for 30 hours of the required education; with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in one of the following areas: Park Administration, Recreation & Parks, Wildlife/Fisheries Science, Natural and/or Cultural Resource Conservation, Range Management, Forestry, Biology, Anthropology/Archeology, History or closely related field.

    Experience :

    Park Operations experience.

    Experience in interpretation or conducting educational programming.

    Experience in public speaking, acting, or other similar areas.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

    Knowledge of methods of interpretation and education.

    Knowledge of natural and cultural resources management.

    Knowledge of special event planning and implementation.

    Knowledge of basic mathematics.

    Knowledge of park operations.

    Knowledge of facility, equipment, and grounds maintenance.

    Skill in effective research techniques, program preparation and presentations.

    Skill in using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts.

    Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner.

    Skill in planning, organizing and implementing public presentations and guided tours for various age groups.

    Skill in the use of hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles, generators and other mechanical equipment.

    Skill in training others.

    Ability to work as a member of a team.

    Ability to accurately handle cash and account for revenue collected.

    Ability to issue permits.

    Ability to work well with various groups and age ranges.

    Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities.

    Ability to survey visitors for program quality.

    Ability to develop and maintain beneficial relationships with civic groups, volunteers, community members and staff.

    Ability to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Required to work 40 hours per week, with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

    Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use.

    Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

    Required to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

    Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety standards.

    Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays.

    Non-smoking work environment in all State buildings and vehicles.
