    You will be joining a department committed to maintaining a culture of teamwork and delivering excellent service to the citizens of Missouri. The Office of the Director is a multi-faceted unit that provides growth and opportunities for development. Normal work hours are 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday, however, a flexible schedule may be available.

    This position will be located at the Roberts Office Building 1706 E. Elm Street, Jefferson City, MO 65102.

    The base salary offered for this position ranges from $56,089.20, commensurate with education and experience. If the selected candidate is eligible for a pay differential, such as retention pay, the total salary may exceed what is listed in this posting.

    This position will provide general assistance and support to the Office of General Counsel, including serving as primary support to the General Counsel, DMH HIPAA Privacy Officer/Assistant General counsel, Assistant General Counsel office in Central Office, and to the Children’s Director. Within the Office of General Counsel, this is a first-level legal support position responsible for assisting in:

    • Preparation of legal documents, scheduling meetings, and preparing reports, as well as clerical duties as assigned.
    • Under the guidance and direction of an attorney, an employee performs research on legal issues, files legal documents, and drafts legal instruments and correspondence.
    • Assistance to the Children’s Director will include preparation of correspondence, scheduling of meetings, preparing meeting minutes and clerical duties as assigned.


    Associate degree or 2-4 years of experience in a legal environment. Education or experience may substitute for the required education or experience.

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

    A successful candidate will have a strong organizational and written communication skills; substantial knowledge of Microsoft Office skills as well as database management tools such as; and general knowledge of the workings of local, state and federal legal systems, including E-File. Familiarity with administrative and mental health care law preferred.

    • Analytical Skills: Ability to investigate, interpret, and analyze data and exercise sound judgement in arriving at conclusions.
    • Communication: Express information effectively, using clear written communication.
    • Self-Management: Possess a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner; and has the ability to stay organized.
    • Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
    • Technical Skills: Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, especially management tools such as Excel and SharePoint.
    • Principles of Law: Possess general knowledge of workings of local, state and federal legal systems, principles, standards, and practices and mental health care law preferred.
