    As an intern within the Design & Construction section, you will have the opportunity to build for a stronger tomorrow by applying your diverse background, education, and work experiences to coordinating a variety of construction projects statewide.

    This person will assist in the planning, design, and oversight of projects while supporting the mission and vision of FMDC. Every day is an opportunity to make an impact on the future, your community, and the State of Missouri!

The internship schedule is flexible at 20-40 hours per week.

    This position is with the Office of Administration Division of Facilities Management, Design, and Construction’s (OA-FMDC) Design and Construction team, supporting the Project Management Unit (PMU) and Construction Administration Unit (CAU). OA-FMDC is committed to strengthening the State’s investments while providing a safe and secure environment through innovative design solutions and excellent customer service.

    • Prioritize excellent customer service for a wide and diverse network of internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to internal teams, state agencies, state officials, contractors, and the public.
    • Assist project managers in reviewing design plans and specifications to ensure design quality, as well as prepare review comments.
    • Attend design, pre-bid, pre-construction, and construction progress meetings with FMDC project managers.
    • Conduct site visits and monitor crews and contractors for compliance with project work plans and objectives.
    • Assist in the coordination of construction projects statewide.


    • Ability to communicate, collaborate, and lead with integrity in a manner that inspires trust and builds positive rapport with a diverse group of stakeholders and the public.
    • Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program or in a technical or vocational college.
    • Knowledge of construction and trade areas, safety practices, and methods.
    • Ability to identify construction issues and propose resolutions.
    • Ability to interpret plans and specifications and understand basic design concepts.
    • Excellent time management, organizational, planning, and communication skills.
    • Excellent attendance, work ethic, attention to detail, conflict management, and critical thinking skills.
    • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license from Missouri or from an adjacent state if you reside outside of Missouri.


    Preferred Field(s) of Study

    • Engineering (Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, etc.);
    • Architecture;
    • Construction; or
    • Drafting.

    Successful background check results are required for employment in this position. This may include background checks involving a candidate's name and/or fingerprints and other screenings as needed for the specific position. Authorization to work in the United States is a prerequisite of employment. The Office of Administration will not sponsor applicants for work visas. The salary indicated represents a base pay rate. If the individual selected or the position is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., shift, security, or years of service), it will be added to the total compensation in your paycheck. A pay differential does not raise your base pay.

    *This position is physically demanding. Examples of job duties may include prolonged periods of walking/standing/sitting/bending/driving, climbing ladders, ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds, working in inclement weather and working on uneven or elevated surfaces. This list is not all inclusive, but a general representation of duties that may be encountered in this position, however other duties may be assigned contingent upon business needs. Please note, this position is considered a “Category 2” under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), meaning the incumbent will be compensated for overtime (hours actually worked over forty hours in a workweek) at the rate of time and one-half.
