    Hello! We're the Justice Information Technology Services (JITS) team, we provide vital Information Technology (IT) infrastructure which Montanan's rely upon to support state and local law enforcement. Our dynamic team manages IT systems, services, and interfaces to support approximately 900 DOJ employees, and over 3,000 Criminal Justice Information Network (CJIN) customers working together to safeguard Montana ! We directly support DOJ staff involved with legal cases concerning the State and its people, Montana missing persons, victim services, children's justice, consumer protection, criminal investigations, highway safety, motor vehicle licensing, gambling control, and forensic laboratory services.

    Job Overview:

    The Montana Department of Justice is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Software Development Supervisor to lead a dynamic team of developers. This pivotal role is central to the department's mission of leveraging technology to enhance public safety and streamline operations across the state. This role encompasses guiding team members, fostering professional growth, and cultivating a collaborative and innovative work environment. The supervisor will monitor project progress and report status to upper management.

    Key responsibilities include identifying and resolving technical issues, bottlenecks, and development blockers. The supervisor will ensure that development efforts and software solutions align with broader business goals and strategic initiatives, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, implement best practices, and introduce new methodologies or technologies. This position leads the development, creation, and modification of computer applications and specialized utility programs, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The role will direct the building, maintenance, testing, and modification of GIS and databases by integrating geospatial information with other specialized datasets and applications.

    Candidates with demonstrated experience in Software Development, Coding, Computer Programming, GIS, and other directly applicable experience are encouraged to apply.

    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in an Information Technology-related field.
    • Four years of experience with software programming and software modification or four years of experience working with or managing GIS systems.
    • Two years of related supervisory experience.
    • Other combinations of education or experience may be substituted.

      Special Information. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States. A valid driver's license is required with less than 12 conviction points in the most recent completed 36 months.

      Preferred Qualifications:
    • Forward-looking towards low code/no code solutions and knowledge of best practices.
    • Knowledge of programming languages such as Java, Python, GO, Rust, Perl, etc.
    • Knowledge of various SQL environments: Oracle, MSSQL, Postgres, MariaDB, etc.
    • Knowledge of various scripting languages: Powershell, Bash, etc.
    • Comfortable operating in multiple operating system environments: Windows, Linux, AIX, MacOS, Oracle, etc.
    • Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle.

    Minimum Physical/Mental Requirements:
    • May require 8 or more hours a day working with a computer.
    • May require more than a 40-hour workweek.
    • May require on-call work to perform systems upgrades/changes and respond to issues.
    • May address issues during off-hours.
