    Please note: The salary range listed in this job description is a base salary. Applicants eligible for years-of-service adjustments or shift differentials may exceed salary range listed above.

    This position will be located at Missouri State Parks Eastern Region Office, Festus, MO 63028. Shift is Monday through Thursday (four 10 hour days per week), 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Work assignments are located over a large geographic area of Missouri that will require travel and overnight stays during the workweek, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

    • Complete skilled work assignments in the operation of ­chainsaws, pole saws and Nifty Lift
    • Work at height cutting limbs and branches, at heights up to approximately 50 feet
    • Use ropes and rigging to assist with tree removal
    • Climb or learn to climb trees using climbing gear
    • Load, transport, and unload equipment effectively and safely
    • Perform manual work requiring repeated bending, stooping, reaching and heavy lifting of cumbersome and large chucks of wood, limbs and branches.
    • Work in heat, humidity, cold and inclement weather, including light rain or drizzle.


    This position is required to obtain and maintain appropriate commercial operator’s license and may be required to obtain water/wastewater certifications. If required and if you do not currently possess this license/certification, you will be given twelve months to obtain necessary license/certification.

    • Flexibility : Is open to change and new information; rapidly adapts to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles.
    • Safety Engineering : Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods to identify, control, mitigate, and eliminate safety hazards in the design and use of facilities, equipment, operations, and work processes.


    Equivalent to those typically gained by:

    • Four to six years of on-the-job training in operation of chainsaws, pole saws, tree trimming, and arborist work, cutting firewood.


    Special Job Requirements:

    • As a special requirement, this position is required to obtain and maintain Missouri Class B Commercial Driver’s license, may require air brake endorsement. If you do not currently possess this license, you will be given twelve months from the first day of employment to obtain necessary license
    • Compliance with random drug and alcohol testing required
    • Ability to understand and complete assignments received orally, electronically, or by written orders.
    • Ability to operate, load, transport, and unload a variety of equipment
    • Possess and apply load securement knowledge
    • Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the day
    • Ability to communicate effectively and work independently
    • Must be able to travel and stay overnight during the work week, i.e. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights
