    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

    This position is a unique opportunity with a wide variety of maintenance responsibilities in a developing park that is not yet open to the public. Powderhorn State Park is located on the mid-coast of Texas and encompasses rich cultural and natural resources including wetlands, prairies, forests, and diverse wildlife.

    Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs entry-level building maintenance and construction work. Responsible for park operations and maintenance at Powderhorn State Park. Performs all phases of maintenance to facilities, buildings, vehicles, equipment, and grounds. Operates various types of equipment, including hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, tractors, and other mechanical equipment. Duties include but are not limited to, preventative maintenance (cleaning/inspecting) and repairs to facilities, buildings, equipment, vehicles, and grounds. Assists with occasional visitors' services to include customer service, public relations, information, safety, security, and public hunting. May assist with agency and park programs to include resource management and interpretation. Prepares required reports. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.


    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Completion of 8th grade.

    Experience :

    One year facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience.

    NOTE: Volunteer or personal experience in facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance counts towards the required experience.

    Licensure :

    Must possess a valid State driver's license.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Graduation from High School or GED.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

    Knowledge of general facility, building, and grounds repair and cleaning techniques.

    Knowledge of landscaping and grounds maintenance techniques.

    Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial, and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks.

    Knowledge of safe cleaning and sanitation procedures as well as use of custodial materials, chemicals, and operation of custodial equipment.

    Knowledge of basic mathematics.

    Knowledge of the construction, repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings, equipment, and utility systems.

    Skill in using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

    Skill in using standard office equipment.

    Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner.

    Skill in the use of hand and power tools, trimmers, weed eaters, mowers, tractors, chainsaws, welding equipment, and other mechanical equipment.

    Skill in making independent, sound, and timely decisions.

    Ability to work as a member of a team.

    Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

    Ability to follow park rules and regulations.

    Ability to prepare reports and forms.

    Ability to safely and effectively operate hand and power tools and mechanical equipment.

    Ability to make repairs and perform minor maintenance to buildings, facilities, and equipment using skills of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical.

    Ability to follow instructions.

    Ability to communicate effectively.

    Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Required to work 40 hours per week with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

    Required to adjust to changing schedules.

    Required to work overtime as necessary.

    Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

    Required to use appropriate safety procedures and equipment.

    Required to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

    Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays.

    Required to operate a State vehicle.

    Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures.

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
