Position Description: Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:- Identify, select, recruit, screen, and maintain a network of community volunteers to provide mentoring services for Court involved and at-risk youth.
- Promote the goals and objectives of the Community Mentorship Program.
- Draft, implement, update, and enforce program policies and procedures.
- Identify necessary training needs for the program and participants, and provide and/or coordinate said training.
- Support program growth through the development and implementation of quality assurance and quality improvement practices.
- Develop measurable data tracking practices and procedures, and track program data.
- Match youth with mentors based on youth interests, goals, aspirations, experiences, and/or needs.
- Monitor mentormentee relationships to ensure safe, healthy, and productive connections are being made and desired outcomes are being achieved.
- Maintain regular contact with mentors and mentees to discuss case status, youth needs, and progress.
- Provide mentors with resources and case consultation.
- Schedule and organize program related meetings and events.
- Maintain a caseload of mentees as desired.
- Maintain case notes on contacts with youth and with mentormentee matches.
- Communicate with assigned Court Services Officers, Supervisors, and other community partners or stakeholders as needed.
- Collaborate with families, youth, mentors, mentees, Court staff, and other community partners through teaming and consistent communication.
- Meet with mentors, mentees, families, and/or youth (may require travel and work outside normal business hours).
· Maintain professionalism, organization, privacy, and confidentiality standards.
- Attend Court hearings on program participants as needed.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal relationships and communication.
- Perform duties when instructed by the Director of Court Services, Deputy Director of Court Services, and Senior Court Services Officer (Programming).
Program: Probate-Juvenile Division
Brief Description: The Community Mentorship Program Coordinator is responsible for building and maintaining a mentorship program for the Court within the Court Services Department. Responsibilities include creating and complying with measurable guidelines, policies, and procedures, and establishing a network of community volunteers to provide mentorship for Court involved youth. This position will identify, select, and screen appropriately matched mentors with youth to provide guidance, support, build trust and relationships, and assist at-risk youth to overcome their challenges.
Job Prerequisites: Qualifications:Associate and/or Bachelor’s Degree (Criminal Justice/Social Service preferred) is required (equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree); an understanding of the Juvenile Court system is preferred; an ability to work with difficult people and communicate with all types of people is required; decision-making, problem solving, organizational skills, and necessary skills with technology such as computer-based programs are all required.
Skills and Characteristics required: Ability to connect with challenging and difficult people, while providing empathetic, non-judgmental, and culturally competent interventions.Understanding of the juvenile justice system and how it interacts with a wide array of other systems in which Court involved youth and families come into contact.Ability to reflect the values and professionalism of the Licking County Juvenile Court in interactions with Court employees and with the community at all times.Maintain the confidentiality of youth and families involved with the Court while treating those involved with the Court with dignity and respect.Demonstrate reasonable judgment in times of crisis and high stress while maintaining a high-performance level in stressful and emotionally challenging conditions and circumstances. Must remain flexible in a fast-paced setting where circumstances change frequently throughout the day.Must utilize conflict resolution and conflict management skills to de-escalate tense situations between youth, their families, and others.Ability to synthesize information from different sources and draw appropriate conclusions.Must demonstrate teamwork on a variety of teams which may include Court staff, service providers, youth, family, and other stakeholders to achieve case plan goals through effective communication and collaboration across systems.Uses interpersonal skills to develop positive relationships with youth and families to drive interventions and achieve case plan goals through consensus when possible.
Certificates, License, Registration, etc.:Must successfully pass a background check and drug screen, and a valid State Operator’s License is required.
