    Performs professional communications work supporting Sustainability Leadership and Project Managers in the City of Orlando’s Office of Sustainability, Resilience, and Future-Ready.

    Responsible for planning, developing, and implementing communications and events related to sustainability, resilience, and future-ready initiatives throughout the City of Orlando.

    This employee will work closely with the city's Office of Communications and Neighborhood Relations to determine strategy, audience, key messaging, content, timelines and tactics to increase awareness of and ensure alignment with the city's key priorities. These tactics include, but are not limited to, website content, briefing sheets, press releases, presentations, newsletters, social media, talking points, brochures, and event production, which sometimes occurs outside regular business hours.

    This role requires frequent collaboration with a wide variety of partners and stakeholders, including residents, business owners, non-profit organizations, industry groups, vendors, city departments and leadership including elected officials.

    Additional responsibilities may include coordinating logistics between administrative services and operations; conducting background research to support new and ongoing projects; tracking progress and reporting data periodically to City operational staff and customers through summaries, reporting, and meeting presentations.

    The ideal candidate has excellent written and oral communications skills, a team-oriented, collaborative mindset, is exceptionally organized and easily able to manage multiple projects across a broad range of topics, comfortable with navigating shifting timelines and dates, confident with public speaking, and is solution-oriented and effective in seeking approaches that work well for all involved.

    Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director and Assistant Director of Sustainability, Resilience, and Future-Ready. Performance is reviewed through direct observation, reports submitted, and evaluation of results obtained.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Public Policy, Public Administration, Engineering, Urban Planning, Sustainability, Social Sciences, Data Science, or related field and two (2) years of related work experience in environmental sustainability, resilience, communications, education, data analysis, public policy, or public administration; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A background in communications, marketing, advertising, public relations, and/or journalism is preferred. A valid Florida Driver’s License is required.

    This is a full-time CONTRACT position with the same benefits as Regular full-time. Most contracts are renewable for terms of one year.

    If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:
    • Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
    • Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
    • Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or
    • Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.
