Department of Transportation is responsible for funding, designing, building, operating, and maintaining the County Road System. El Dorado County's Road System currently consists of approximately 1083 centerline miles of paved roadway, 76 bridges, a multitude of storm drainage systems, and related transportation facilities.
The Department of Transportation has two main priorities: 1. Ensuring that our roads are safe for public use with due care in a manner in which it is reasonably foreseeable that they will be used, and
2. Preserving and maintaining the public's multi-billion dollar investment in our roads, bridges, and other facilities.
MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS DIVISION The Maintenance and Operations Division is composed of Road Crews, Fleet Services, Equipment Mechanics, and Traffic Control Crews. This dedicated team manages the repair, maintenance, and replacement of existing County roadway and drainage infrastructure. It is also responsible for the maintenance of all 1083 centerline miles of roadway in the County.
THE OPPORTUNITY Under general supervision plans, assigns and directs, and personally participates in the work of a crew performing bridge maintenance, repair and construction.
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to: - Assign, direct, review and evaluate the work of an on-site crew engaged in the maintenance and repair of bridges, box culverts, guard rails, retaining walls and related structures.
- Personally perform the most skilled duties; provide technical assistance to crew members; instruct crew in work procedures and safe work practices.
- Estimate and secure tools, materials and equipment required for assigned jobs; discusses work to be performed with supervisors, assigned tasks to individuals at the work site.
- Monitor work in progress at the worksite; direct corrections and modifications as appropriate.
- Maintain records of work performed and materials used; prepare a variety of written records and reports related to work.
- May read and interpret plans, schematics, blueprints, manuals and specifications.
- Use and direct the use and maintenance of a wide variety of hand, power and shop tools, and other equipment related to the work.
- Observe safe work methods and ensures the use of safety equipment and precautions related to the work being performed; assist in developing training programs.
- Coordinate work assignments with other divisions; respond to questions and request as appropriate.
- Operate bridge maintenance and construction equipment and tools; perform manual labor in support of work crew activities; may perform any of all duties of any member of the bridge work crew.
- Perform special projects as assigned.
- Respond to emergency calls in off hours as required.
- Attendance and punctuality that is observant of scheduled hours on a regular basis.
I n addition to these great opportunities, Sr. Bridge Maintenance Workers are eligible for the following: - $325/year boot allowance
- $12.49/pay period uniform allowance
- Full-time employees in classifications in the Trades and Crafts bargaining unit can select an individual or family Health Plan with $0.00 in insurance premium cost to the employee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Human Resources will assess your application to determine if you are minimally qualified using the following minimum qualifications:
One year of experience in bridge maintenance and construction work at a level equivalent to the County's Bridge Maintenance Worker III class.
Note: The above qualifications are a typically accepted way of obtaining the required knowledge and skill.
Other Requirements:
Most possess a valid commercial Class A driver's license with no restrictions as to transmission and air brakes, with Tanker Endorsement. Must regularly lift and carry objects weighing up to sixty (60) pounds and perform sustained heavy physical labor. Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions, to work with exposure to traffic and to work overtime or off-hours shifts in emergency situations.
