Assistant/Recreation Supervisor IVIEW OUR RECRUITMENT BROCHURE The Department The Community Services Department includes Recreation Services, Parks Planning & Design and Urban Forestry. Together, we strive to improve the health, wellness and quality of life for Fremont residents. We provide:
- Exceptional educational and recreational programs and services to people of all ages, such as sports leagues, kids’ camps and after-school programs, and recreational classes.
- Historic and cultural resources, such as the Shinn House and Arboretum, the Vallejo Adobe within the California Nursery Historical Park, and the Galindo-Higuera Adobe at Rancho Higuera Historical Park
- Facilities, including three program centers in Central Park, five community centers, group picnic areas and the Olive Hyde Art Gallery
- Unique attractions, such as Lake Elizabeth, the Aqua Adventure Waterpark, Central Park Skate Park and the Palms Pavilion Group Picnic Area
- Special events throughout the year, such as the Kids ‘n’ Kites Festival, the Summer Movie and Concert Series, Patterson House events, and Trick or Treat on Downtown Safety Street
- Amazing parks, with over 1200 acres throughout 64 parks.
The Recreation Services Division offers a broad range of services, activities and programs for all ages and interests. Recreation programs include kid camps, academic classes, sports activities and leagues, art, music, dance, and cooking classes to name a few. The Recreation Division also puts on a number of popular community events, such as the Kids ‘n’ Kites Festival, Outdoor Movie and Summer Concert Series at Central Park, and Trick or Treat on Downtown Safety Street. The Recreation team also manages all park facilities and rentals including Aqua Adventure Waterpark, community centers, sports facilities and picnic areas.

Assistant Recreation Supervisor/Recreation Supervisor I Class Specification Assistant Recreation Supervisor This is a flexibly staffed, deep class series which includes Assistant Recreation Supervisor, Recreation Supervisor I, and Recreation Supervisor II.
Definition Under direct supervision, plans, organizes and supervises an assigned set of recreation activities; provides functional supervision over seasonal or temporary employees and volunteers; and does related work as required.
Class CharacteristicsThis is an entry level classification in the Recreation Supervisor series reporting to a Recreation Supervisor II. Incumbents exercise judgment in day to day decision making which affects the scheduling and operations of the least demanding or complex recreation activities; may provide functional supervision of seasonal or temporary employees and volunteers. This class is distinguished from Recreation Supervisor I by the complexity of the duties performed by the latter which require additional education and experience.
Recreation Supervisor I This is a flexibly staffed deep class series which includes Assistant Recreation Supervisor, Recreation Supervisor I, and Recreation Supervisor II.
Definition Under general supervision, plans, organizes and supervises an assigned set of recreation activities or community centers; provides functional supervision of seasonal or temporary employees and volunteers; and does related work as required.
Class CharacteristicsThis is a journey level classification in the Recreation Supervisor series reporting to a Recreation Supervisor II or Recreation Superintendent. Incumbents exercise considerable judgment in day to day decision making which affects the scheduling and operations of recreation activities or community centers; may provide functional supervision of seasonal or temporary employees and volunteers. This class is distinguished from Assistant Recreation Supervisor by the complexity of duties, and additional responsibilities performed by the latter.
