    Job Location: This position will be located at Harry S. Truman State Office Building, 301 W. High Street, Jefferson City, MO 65102

    The Office of Child Advocate is an independent reviewer of the child welfare system. This position will have the opportunity to positively impact the child welfare system through investigatory case reviews while working with various stakeholders.

    The salary indicated represents a base pay rate. If the individual selected or the position is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., shift, security, or years of service), it will be added to the total compensation in your paycheck. A pay differential does not raise your base pay.

    • Receive, analyze and review cases received by the Office of Child Advocate regarding complaints against the Children’s Division.
    • The investigator analyzes complaints to determine an appropriate response.
    • The Investigator will contact Children’s Division staff and other relevant entities to gather additional information. The investigator will review Children’s Division case files, law enforcement reports, medical reports, etc.
    • The investigator will interact personally with various parties involved in cases.
    • This includes conducting interviews, field meetings, and travel as necessary.
    • The investigator will also assist in the promotion of the office, education surrounding the office, and assisting in the compilation of data for the annual report.
    • The investigator will also attend stakeholder meetings or legislative hearings when Director or designee is unavailable.
    • Speaking with callers of concern.
    • Reviewing documentation in FACES regarding alternative care cases, investigations and assessments and child fatalities.
    • Speaking with child welfare professionals such as Children's Division employees, juvenile officers, and GALs.
    • Issue a letter of findings regarding agreement or practice or policy concerns.


    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, human development & family studies, or criminal justice.
    • Must have at least 3 years of experience in the child welfare system as a case worker, investigator, supervisor, or Juvenile Officer.


    Lack of post - secondary education will not be used as the sole basis denying consideration to any applicant.

    Successful background check results are required for employment in this position. This may include background checks involving a candidate's name and/or fingerprints and other screenings as needed for the specific position.

    Authorization to work in the United States is a prerequisite of employment. The Office of Administration will not sponsor applicants for work visas.
