Why you’ll love this position: The State Auditor's office (SAO) is seeking a Local Government Specialist I, a mid-level administrative position responsible for assisting the administration of the State Auditor's communications with political subdivisions and counties on budgets and financial statements. This position is also responsible for whistleblower hotline management, assisting with the Public Corruption and Fraud Division (PCFD), and handling general phone calls and constituent contacts. This position reports to the General Counsel and will work in the Legal and Government Compliance section of the SAO.
This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this position - Respond to requests and inquiries from political subdivision staff and elected officials related to local government forms and reports.
- Work alongside tax rate staff to review & certify political subdivisions' calculation of property tax rates and to organize correspondence with every political subdivision.
- Assist with the preparation and distribution of tax rate forms and instructions.
- Provide assistance to county and local government officials to ensure county budgets and financial statements are properly filed.
- Maintain an updated mailing list on political subdivisions.
- Prepare letters and budget forms for mailing to third-class counties.
- Prepare letters and financial statement forms for annual mailings to political subdivisions and perform necessary follow-up.
- Review, acknowledge, post and file financial statements for political subdivisions.
- Maintain an accurate checklist on county budgets and financial statements to determine compliance with statutes.
- Answer calls and process whistleblower complaints.
- Assist with intake in the PCFD.
- Assist with organizing documentation related to whistleblower complaints.
- Document whistleblower concerns using a complaint management system.
- Evaluate new issues and work with legal counsel when necessary.
- Assist with entering office deposits into state accounting system.
- Maintain confidentiality of office information.
- Prior experience with tax rates or financial reporting is desired, but not required. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, business administration, public administration, or a related business area is preferred.
