Marin County is located in northwest of San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge and is home to an engaged community of 260,000. The County enjoys a diversified economic base, including a mix of insurance, medical, pharmaceutical, technology, financial, and retail employers. Marin is a desirable place to live and is known for its combination of rural and suburban lifestyles, entertainment and recreational activities, and mild, year-round climate. Marin’s youth are supported by a strong education system and higher education is offered by Marin Community College, and several other excellent institutions in the area. Marin includes the incorporated cities of Belvedere, Corte Madera, Fairfax, Larkspur, Mill Valley, Novato, Ross, San Anselmo, San Rafael, Sausalito, and Tiburon.

The Marin County Department of Public Works (DPW) oversees a wide range of activities including managing capital infrastructure projects, Flood Control and water quality programs, engineering, road maintenance, Americans with Disabilities Act coordination, traffic safety operations, waste management and sustainability programs.
This is an at-will executive management classification recommended by the County Executive and subject to appointment by the Board of Supervisors. The position will report to an Assistant County Executive and provides leadership, strategic vision, administrative oversight and policy direction to the various divisions and organizational units of DPW. The ideal candidate is a proven change agent and visionary leader with an ability to modernize systems, processes, and procedures to meet the evolving needs of a dynamic department.
The annual salary range is $260,781 to $287,496; placement within this range is dependent on qualifications and experience. The County of Marin also offers a competitive, full benefits package.
