DescriptionUnder direct supervision (Rad Tech PDP II) and general supervision (Rad Tech-PDP III/IV), prepares and positions patients for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examinations and performs quality control measures for the purpose of ensuring optimal quality images for interpretation by the Radiologist in an accurate and timely manner.
The ideal candidate will perform all MRI exams independently, understand cross-sectional anatomy, be venipuncture certified, be flexible with scheduling to work a variety of shifts, participate in the on-call rotation for MRI and have advanced certification in MRI from the ARRT.
Distinguishing Characteristics The Per Diem Pool (PDP) classifications are distinguished from the Regular classifications in that incumbents in these classifications receive limited benefits. They will receive shift differential, standby and callback premium pay and will participate in the Ventura County Employees' Retirement Association, if they are assigned a biweekly work schedule of 64 hours or more. Incumbents hired into these positions are not guaranteed any specific number of work hours per biweekly pay period, and management has the authority to relieve them from duty when there is insufficient work.
Approximate SalaryRadiologic Technologist PDP II $38.84 per hour
Radiologic Technologist PDP III $45.88 per hour
Radiologic Technologist PDP IV $49.41 per hour
SHIFT DIFFERENTIALAn employee in this role may be eligible for an evening/night shift differential of 5% above their current base salary.

Examples Of DutiesDuties may include but are not limited to the following:
MRI Technologist PDP III/III/IV
- Prepares and positions patients for examination according to approved modality protocols.
- Sets up and operates related equipment per department protocols
- Evaluates cross-sectional images for interpretation by Radiologists, assisting them as required
- Works in pressure situations with staff, physicians, and critically ill patients
- Completes the billing process for each patient encounter utilizing all Imaging department electronic systems and the hospital electronic medical record system.
- May be required assist, lift, and transport patients to and from the MRI department.
- May demonstrate proficiency in IV contrast administration.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Typical QualificationsThese are entrance requirements to the exam process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.
EDUCATION- Graduation from a single two-year allied health education program that is patient-care related OR
- Graduation from a program accredited by The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Professionals (CAAHEP) that specifically conducts programmatic accreditation for diagnostic medical sonography/diagnostic cardiac sonography/vascular technology OR
- Bachelor's degree in sonography or vascular technology OR
- Bachelor's degree in any major and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time clinical ultrasound/vascular experience (NOTE: this experience cannot be used to satisfy the experience required below)
ANDMRI Technologist, Per Diem Pool II- Graduation from an accredited MRI program OR
- At least six(6) months of experience performing the duties in MRI.
MRI Technologist, Per Diem Pool III- Minimum two (2) years of experience performing the duties in MRI.
MRI Technologist, Per Diem Pool IV- Minimum five (5) years of experience performing the duties in MRI.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS- Must possess a valid Fluoroscopy Permit issued by the State of California Department of Public Health/Radiologic Health Branch
- Must possess a valid CPR certification
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesWorking knowledge of:
- Anatomy, physiology, physics, and medical terminology as it relates to each modality.
- HIPAA regulations.
- Exam specific requirements when imaging neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients.
- Documentation required for exam billing processes.
- The Joint Commission requirements, National Patient Safety Goals and all pertinent regulations per modality.
Demonstrated ability to:
- Establish effective working relationships with patients, physicians, and staff.
- Provide clear and concise explanations to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Perform exams requiring sterile field set-up and maintenance.
- Perform routine and complex and/or specialty imaging services studies to include measurements of normal and abnormal pathology.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Duties are performed in an acute care setting and include frequent lifting of and/or transportation of patients by wheelchair or gurney/stretcher; moving imaging equipment to patient’s bedside for portable studies and standing for extended periods of time; possible continued exposure to x-radiation scatter; and exposure to various types of infectious diseases, blood, body tissues or excretions.
Shift assignments may include VCMC and/or Santa Paula Hospital and day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday hours.
Standby/Callback shift assignments are a requirement for Magnetic Resonance Technologists, Interventional Radiology Technologists and the PACS Administrator.
