    To act as itinerant in-person Speech Language Pathologist for the Santa Barbara County Education Office, Special Education Program. Responsibilities include assessment and instruction of students, and consultation for parents and teachers.

    * Conduct the Speech/Language Program as established by State and Federal regulations

    and the Santa Barbara County Education Office.

    • Review referrals and conduct Speech/Language observations at direct service districts

    and/or County-operated programs as assigned.

    • Conduct individual Speech/Language assessments, and prepare assessment reports and

    recommendations for services.

    • Serve as a member of the school Student Study Team.

    • Assist in preparing individualized education programs suited to the needs of individual

    students. Establish well-defined educational goals for students identified as having a

    Speech/Language disability.

    • Conduct Speech/Language therapy and assessments. Provide services following

    consultation model as designed.

    • Provide parent and teacher counseling and instruction related to the individual

    student’s speech and language skills; attend scheduled meetings, and confer frequently

    with parents and professional staff members on student progress.

    • Review student progress; keep up-to-date records on individual student progress, and

    adjust instructional procedures as needed.

    • Actively participate in in-service programs, and keep abreast of current clinical,

    theoretical, and educational research in the profession.

    • Assume responsibility for the safety and welfare of pupils and personnel.

    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    California Speech-Language Pathology or Clinical Rehabilitative Services Credential in Language, Speech, & Hearing, or Masters Degree in Communicative Disorders (or equivalent), plus a valid California Speech-Language Pathology License, and Experience and/or training appropriate to fulfill requirements of the position.

County offices of education also provide a wide range of instructional programs, including special education, early childhood education, career and technical education, programs for youth at risk, and instruction in juvenile detention facilities.   

    The Santa Barbara County Education Office (SBCEO) is an intermediate agency between the California State Department of Education and the 20 school districts that are located within the county's boundaries. Our mission is to provide service and leadership for students, educators, school districts, and finance.  

    SBCEO student services include Special Education Programs, Child Development and Early Education Programs, Children's Creative Project, Transitional Youth Services, Juvenile Court and Community Schools, Migrant Education, Nurses and Psychologists, and Regional Occupational Program and Career Technical Education.  

    Teacher and administrator services include Credential Services, Educational Technology Services, Peer Assistance and Review Program, Professional Development and technical assistance, Teacher Induction Program, teacher support and recognition programs, classified employee recognition programs, and technology training.  

    SBCEO special programs include Author-Go-Round, Battle of the Books, Breakfast with the Authors, CATCH, Children and Family Resource Services, Computers for Families, County Spelling Bee, I Madonnari Italian Street Painting Festival, Industry-Education Councils, Mock Trial, Partners In Education volunteer coordination program, Public Health/School Nurse Partnership, Retirement counseling for STRS members, Showcase of Innovative Learning, Tobacco Use Prevention Education, THRIVE Guadalupe, and Welcome Every Baby.
