Full-time Lecturer - Public Health

The Kinesiology and Public Health Department in the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking to hire one full-time lecturer for a two-year contract, with an appointment beginning September 11, 2025 and ending approximately May 21, 2027. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The anticipated hiring range for a finalist with a master's degree is $66,084 - $71,508 annually. The anticipated hiring range for a finalist with a doctorate degree is $78,432 - $89,772 annually.

Primary duties and responsibilities are to teach undergraduate general education healthy living, multicultural health and/or women’s health, introduction to community and public health, health behavior theory, obesity prevention and treatment, and lab sections of research methods in public health, as well as lab sections of stress, health, and chronic illness.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s Degree in Public Health, Community Health, Health Promotion, or Health Education or closely related field is required.
• All requirements for the Master’s Degree must be completed before September 11, 2025.
• Must have the ability to teach the following undergraduate courses: general education healthy living; multicultural health; and/or women’s health; introduction to community and public health; health behavior theory; obesity prevention and treatment and; lab sections of research methods in public health; lab sections of stress, health, and chronic illness.
• Must have the ability to teach in three or more of the following areas: undergraduate-level introduction to epidemiology; applied epidemiology; global health; drugs and society; media and technology in health promotion; injury prevention; medical terminology; health promotion program planning and evaluation; worksite health promotion; stress, health and chronic disease, research methods; and supervise undergraduate research.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Doctorate in Public Health, Community Health, Health Promotion, or Health Education or closely related field.
• Certified Health Education Specialists or CHES/MCHES eligible.
• University teaching experience using face to face and online delivery.
• Experience supervising undergraduate research.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Kinesiology and Public Health Department is a major academic unit within the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics offering a BS in Kinesiology and a BS in Public Health. There are approximately 550 undergraduate students, 15 full time faculty, 4 full time lecturers, 25 part time faculty, and 5 support staff. The mission of the Kinesiology and Public Health (KPH) Department is to promote physical activity and health for all through excellence in teaching, research and service. The Center for Health Research (CHR) is a University Research Center housed within the Department of Kinesiology and Public Health that includes several ongoing multi-million-dollar NIH-funded research grants. Projects include several long-term prospective human research studies involving hundreds of community participants, dozens of local community contracts and partners, and several national and international partners. There are approximately 30 staff positions funded by external research grants including researchers, faculty investigators, research staff, a community liaison, database managers, phlebotomists, a technician, student research fellows, medical consultants and a translator. In addition, there are 20-30 undergraduate students conducting independent research in any given quarter.
