This unique position offers the chance to contribute to public safety while collecting and managing specimens for lab analysis.     Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
    - Collect blood, breath, and urine specimens from adults and juveniles.
    - Distribute specimens to appropriate laboratories or facilities for testing or storage.
    - Maintain inventory control and ensure supplies are stocked and ready for use.
    - Perform clerical tasks such as word processing, filing, and maintaining departmental records.
    - Follow quality control procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
    - Provide expert witness testimony in legal proceedings when necessary.
    - Book evidence and maintain accurate records of lab tests and confidential information.
    - Adhere to safety procedures and OSHA standards for processing and transporting bodily fluids.
    - Maintain a clean, sterile environment and ensure specimens security during the collection process.
    - Perform related duties as assigned.

    Duties and schedules may vary by assignment, please inquire about specific duties and/or schedules if called upon for an interview. Incumbents may be required to work any shift; nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

    The current temporary vacancy exists in the Traffic Bureau Division of the Fresno Police Department.

    Pay,Benefits, & Work Schedule

    The salary range posted in this bulletin represents the salary range for a FULL-TIME position. Compensation will be pro-rated for temporary positions based on the number of hours worked. Incumbents may be required to work weekends and holidays. Working hours may be between the hours of 4:00 pm to 2:00 am.

    These are temporary employment opportunities that do not provide health benefits, or retirement and are not in any way a guarantee of permanent employment.

    The Requirements

    Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to be placed in the qualified pool of candidates:

    Possession of a high school diploma or GED

    AND

    One (1) year of full-time paid experience as a Phlebotomist in an in-patient or out-patient setting.

    Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician by the California State Department of Health Services at time of appointment. APPLICANTS MUST ATTACH A COPY OF CERTIFICATE (instructions below on how to attach documents). Applications lacking the attachment may be rejected.

    The work experience section MUST be completed with detailed duties, dates and weekly hours worked for each title held. Please SPECIFY THE PHLEBOTOMIST DUTIES with which you have experience on your application. Applications lacking a completed work experience section may be rejected.

    Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required at time of appointment. Candidates considered for hire will be required to provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record.

    The selected eligible candidates certified will be required to successfully pass a department interview, an extensive background investigation including Computer Voice Stress Analyzer (CVSA) and/or polygraph test, and a Department of Justice fingerprint prior to employment with the City of Fresno.
