The engineering section assists communities and consultants in developing cost effective infrastructure designed to protect human health and the environment by navigating the existing regulatory compliance requirements, identifying relevant water quality needs, and ensuring reliable long-term design of new and upgrading wastewater treatment systems through sound engineering practices. You will apply your engineering skills to evaluate a wide variety of wastewater treatment process designs while working in a collaborative environment with a technical team having diverse engineering experiences and backgrounds. This position will be located at Lewis and Clark State Office Building, 1101 Riverside Drive, Jefferson City, MO 65101
- Evaluate engineering documents such as facility plans, detailed specifications, and other submittals for wastewater collection and treatment systems to ensure compliance with standards engineering practices, regulatory requirements, and protection of public health and the environment.
- Draft construction permits for wastewater treatment systems in accordance with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Clean Water Regulations and guidance.
- Draft operating permits for new modified wastewater treatment system due to construction.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to the regulated community, public citizens, private engineering consultants, legislators, and others with regards to laws, regulations, and engineering requirements through in-person or online meetings, written communications, and presentations statewide.
- Participate in training and technical conferences to remain current on engineering practices and innovative treatment technologies and effectively communicate this information and experience to other department engineering and engineering consultants.
- Contribute to the development of guidance and regulations pertaining to wastewater treatment and construction permits.

- Assistant Engineer - A Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline and 0-2 years of relevant experience. Successful completion of the Fundamental of Engineering (FE) examination is preferred.
- Associate Engineer - A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Engineering discipline and 2-4 years of progressive relevant experience. Successful completion of the Fundamental of Engineering (FE) examination is preferred.
