Under the guidance of the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach will support training sessions, assist during swim meets, and communicate with swimmers and parents as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Must successfully pass a background check and urine drug screening.
- Strong knowledge of the four competitive strokes: Freestyle, Breaststroke, Butterfly, and Backstroke.
- Ability to complete a 100-yard continuous swim using any combination of freestyle and/or breaststroke, with rhythmic breathing (backstroke is prohibited per Red Cross standards).
- Must be able to tread water for two minutes without using hands, utilizing legs only.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with swimmers, parents, and coaching staff.
- Ability to design and lead structured workouts for designated age groups while prioritizing swimmer safety.
- Ability to follow instructions and adhere to team policies and procedures.
- Comfortable working in outdoor weather conditions, including heat, humidity, and wet environments for up to five hours per day in a semi-shaded area.
Required & Preferred Certifications, Licenses, and Training:Candidates must hold or be able to obtain the following before employment:
- American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches (or ability to complete).
- American Red Cross Professional CPR/AED Certification.
- Completion of an online Athlete Protection Training course.
- Completion of an online Concussion Protocol Training course.
- Successful completion of the Rules and Regulations for Coaches Test.
Work Schedule:- Practices are typically 2 hours per day, 3 to 4 days per week.
- Attendance is required at 4 to 5 swim meets on Saturdays in June and July, each lasting approximately 8 hours.
Essential Job Responsibilities:- Arrive at practice on time and prepared to coach.
- Serve as a positive role model for swimmers.
- Respect and follow instructions from the Head Coach and Lasker management.
- Treat all team members equally and fairly.
- Ensure all required documentation is completed accurately and submitted on time.
- Be knowledgeable in accessing and utilizing emergency rescue equipment.
- Provide emergency medical care, first aid, and CPR when necessary.
- Adhere to all City of Galveston and Galveston Community Pool at Lasker Park policies and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management or the Head Coach.
