Recruiting for: Current and future full-time and part-time vacancies within the Department of
Corrections, Medical Administration Division, in the following geographical areas: Carson City,
Ely, Indian Springs, North Las Vegas and Lovelock, Nevada.
Please take note that High Desert State Prison (HDSP), located in Indian Springs, Nevada,
is a maximum security prison.
Sr. Physician POSITION: Under administrative direction, performs professional medical duties
and functions, involving general examination, diagnosis, care and treatment; supervises the
medical services; and performs related work, as required. Prescribes medications by using
standard pharmacological procedures, in order to facilitate treatment and care of individual
clients. Must be knowledgeable of Nevada Revised Statutes applicable to the practice of
medicine within Nevada State institutions and facilities.
Mid-Level Practitioner POSITION: Mid-Level Practitioners may be either advanced practitioners
of nursing (APRN), or Physician Assistant (PA), who provides medical care in psychiatric or
correctional settings. Physician Assistants provide medical care in accordance with approved
medical protocols as allowed under the Supervising Physician's scope of practice and Nevada
Revised Statutes. Advanced Practitioners of Nursing (APRNs), work within the scope of practice
of an APRN and practice protocols as agreed upon by the collaborating physician and the APRN,
as set forth in the Nurse Practice Act, Chapter 632, of the Nevada Revised Statutes and
Administrative Code.
Senior Physician is an unclassified medical professional position that serves at the discretion of
the NDOC Medical Director.
Mid-Level Practitioners are employed to underfill authorized Senior Physician vacancies; as
necessary; based on operational staffing demands.
Sr. Physician Requirements: Graduation from an accredited school of medicine or approved
by the Nevada Board of Medical Examiners with one year of internship in an approved hospital
and three years of experience in the practice of medicine or an equivalent combination of both;

License: License to practice as a medical physician in the State of Nevada is required at the
time of appointment; and must be maintained throughout employment; without interruption.
Mid-Level Practitioner Requirements: Licensure by the Nevada State Board of Medical
Examiners or certification by the Nevada State Board of Osteopathic Medicine as a Physician
Assistant; OR certification of recognition as an Advanced Practitioner; Family Nurse Practitioner
or Advanced Nurse Practitioner, issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing.
License: Possession of a license to practice as a Registered Nurse by the Nevada State Board
of Nursing is required at the time of appointment and throughout employment; without
interruption..
Special Notes and Requirements: Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, all positions in the class have
been identified as affecting public safety. 1) Persons offered employment in the class must first
submit to pre-employment screening for controlled substances. 2) Requires fingerprinting and
a background investigation through the FBI and NCIC processes. 3) A valid license to practice
medicine in the State of Nevada is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained
throughout employment.
Sr. Physician SALARY AND Benefits: The Legislative maximum annual salary is $219,975, under
the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS), (Employer-Employee) benefit plan.
Employee benefits include paid annual, paid sick leave, health insurance, and the State
retirement plan. Other optional benefits are available including a deferred compensation
program.
A reduced maximum annual salary of $188,415, is available under the Employer-only, PERS
retirement plan.
Mid-Level Practitioner SALARY AND Benefits: Incumbents are compensated at Pay Grade 43,
Step 10; which equates to an annual salary of $137,954, under the Public Employees'
Retirement System (PERS), (Employee-Employer), benefit plan. Employee benefits include paid
annual, paid sick leave, health insurance, and the State retirement plan. Other optional benefits
are available including a deferred compensation program.
A reduced an salary of $118,159, is available under the Employer-only, PERS retirement plan.
