    Under general supervision (Rad Tech-PDP II), or direction (Rad Tech-PDP III/IV), prepares and positions patients for CAT Scan examinations and performs quality control measures for the purpose of ensuring optimal quality images for interpretation by the radiologist in an accurate and timely manner.

    The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong background in patient preparation and positioning for CAT Scan examinations, ensuring patient comfort and accuracy in alignment to obtain optimal imaging results. They will be skilled in operating CT and related diagnostic equipment to capture high-quality images, following department protocols for procedures, including routine CT exams, biopsies, and drainages. A thorough understanding of quality control measures is essential, as well as proficiency in completing documentation and billing tasks accurately within the department's information systems. This candidate will bring a commitment to timely, precise imaging for effective radiologist interpretation.

    The Per Diem Pool (PDP) classifications are distinguished from the Regular classifications in that the incumbents in these classifications receive limited benefits. They are eligible to receive shift differential, standby and callback premium pay and may participate in the Ventura County Employees' Retirement Association if they are assigned a biweekly work schedule of 64 hours or more. Incumbents hired into these positions are not guaranteed any specific number of work hours per biweekly pay period, and management has the authority to relieve them from duty when there is insufficient work.

    APPROXIMATE SALARY:
    Radiologic Technologist- Per Diem Pool II: $38.84 per hour
    Radiologic Technologist- Per Diem Pool III: $45.88 per hour
    Radiologic Technologist- Per Diem Pool IV: $49.41 per hour

    SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL: An employee in this role may be eligible for an evening/night shift differential of 5% above their current base salary.

    AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Health Care Agency - Ventura County Medical Center and Santa Paula Hospital

    Radiologic Technologist-Per Diem Pool II/III/IV are represented by the Service Employees' International Union (SEIU) and are eligible for overtime compensation.

    All Radiologic Technologists are eligible to be part of the on call rotation of the specific modality they are hired into.

    The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Per Diem Pool vacancies within the Health Care Agency. There is currently one (1) Per Diem Pool IV vacancy.

    NOTE: If appointed at a lower level, incumbent may be promoted to higher levels without further examination upon meeting the minimum requirements, demonstrating satisfactory performance, and in accordance with the business needs of the department.

    TENTATIVE SCHEDULE
    OPENING DATE: 12/4/24

    Examples Of Duties

    Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
    • Prepares and positions patients for examination according to approved departmental procedure;
    • Operates CT and related equipment to obtain diagnostic images;
    • Assists in maintaining files, records, and reports according to departmental policy;
    • Performs routine computer tomography exams, biopsies, and drainages; sets up and operates related equipment per department protocols;
    • Evaluates cross-sectional images for interpretation by radiologists, assisting them as required;
    • Works in pressure situations with staff, physicians, and critically-ill patients;
    • Completes documentation associated with the examination and billing processes utilizing department information systems;
    • May be required to assist, lift, and transport patients to and from CT department;
    • May be eligible for certification to perform venipuncture;
    • May demonstrate proficiency in IV contrast administration;
    • Will be part of the CT Standby rotation;
    • Will work at both Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) and Santa Paula Hospital (SPH) CT departments;
    • Transports patients to and from the radiology department when necessary; and
    • Performs other related duties as required.


    Typical Qualifications

    These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.

    EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE
    • Current certification as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the State of California Department of Public Health/Radiologic Health Branch
    Radiologic Technologist- Per Diem Pool II
    • Must have one (1) to four (4) years' experience as a Certified Radiologic Technologist
    Radiologic Technologist- Per Diem Pool III
    • Must have five (5) or more years' experience and as a Certified Radiologic Technologist OR one (1) or more years of specialized experience in Computed Tomography
    Radiologic Technologist- Per Diem Pool IV
    • Must have ten (10) or more years' experience as a Certified Radiologic Technologist OR three (3) or more years of specialized experience in Computed Tomography
    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
    • Must be willing to work various shifts and on weekends
    • Must be willing to work at both Ventura County Medical Center and Santa Paula Hospital campuses as needed
    • Possession and maintenance of a Fluoroscopy Permit issued by the State of California Department of Public Health/Radiologic Health Branch by date of hire
    • Must possess a valid CPR certification by date of hire
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    Working knowledge of:
    • Anatomy, physiology, physics and medical terminology as it relates to each modality
    • Adherence to HIPAA regulations
    • Exam specific requirements when imaging neonates, pediatric and adult patients
    • Documentation required for exam billing processes
    • Skill in positioning patients for image acquisition including shielding per ALARA
    • Ability to perform routine and complex and/or specialty imaging services studies to include measurements of normal and abnormal pathology and detailed anatomical statistics

    Demonstrated ability to:
    • Establish effective working relationships with patients, physicians, and staff.
    • Provide clear and concise explanations to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation
    • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
    • Proficient performing exams requiring sterile field set-up and maintenance
