click here. Placer County currently has a vacancy for Engineering/Surveying Interns to work in the Department of Public Works. This internship will provide valuable paid experience to students looking to join this field. All students or recent graduates (up to 1 year after graduation) will be considered, but students with the following majors/degrees are desirable:
- Civil Engineering
- Environmental Engineering
- Structural Engineering
- Surveying
- Hydrogeology
- Water Quality
- GIS and/or Geography
- Majors in related fields
As a Engineering/Surveying Intern, you can expect to assist County staff with the following tasks:
- Reviewing survey maps and other engineering documents
- Preparing designs and plans
- Collecting construction samples for testing
- Prepare Computer Aided Design (CAD) or Building Information Modeling (BIM) drawings
- Performing field survey work
- Performing data research
- Performing traffic studies
Placer County is looking for interns with certain knowledge and skills. If you have any of the following, you are encouraged to apply:
- Knowledge of engineering principles and practices
- Familiarity with GIS mapping
- Understanding of physical features shown on a topographic map/grading plan
- Knowledge of database management
- Knowledge of math principles
- Familiarity with construction plans
To be eligible for this internship, you must fall into one of these three categories:
1. Current Undergraduate College/University Student
a. Student must be enrolled in an accredited 2 or 4 year college or university program.
b. Student must submit proof of continuing enrollment (current class schedule, unofficial transcripts, etc.) with their application.
2. Recent College Graduate - up to 1 year after graduation
a. Recent graduate must submit proof of graduation (diploma, unofficial transcripts, etc.) with their application.
3. Current Graduate College/University Student
a. Student must be enrolled in an accredited college or university program.
b. Student must submit proof of continuing enrollment (current class schedule, unofficial transcripts, etc.) with their application.
To apply for a Student Intern assignment, please submit an application and complete the supplemental questionnaire indicating the department(s) that you are interested in and outlining your goal(s) for the internship. The Student Intern is unclassified and assignments are extra help/temporary compensated at an hourly rate of $16.87 - $21.07 per hour (specialized skillsets may be paid at the higher end of the range). Work hours are limited to no more than 28 hours per week and cannot exceed a maximum of 1,000 hours per fiscal year. The list established may be considered for other department vacancies in the future.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENTPrior to the date of hire, applicants must undergo a fingerprint test by the Department of Justice, pass a medical examination (which may include a drug screening and possibly a psychological evaluation), sign a constitutional oath, and submit proof of U.S. citizenship or legal right to remain and work in the U.S. For some positions, applicants may also be required to submit proof of age, undergo a background investigation (which may include a voice stress analysis and/or a polygraph), and/or be bonded. Additionally, positions in law enforcement classifications and those supporting law enforcement functions will be required to complete a conviction history questionnaire prior to or during the interview process. Applicants for positions with access to Medi-Cal billing software or who are licensed providers must clear the Federal Exclusion List, credentialing, and social security verification. Failure to clear these requirements may result in an employment offer being withdrawn.
